Certified Nurse Midwife

Job Summary:

The Nurse Midwife is a licensed, independent practitioner who provides gynecological and obstetrical care to patients including preconception, antepartum, postpartum, contraception, and gynecologic care. When indicated, consults and collaborates with OBGYN physician, Chief Medical Officer, and other health care staff to provide medical care, treatment, and counseling to patients.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Listed are a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of a Nurse Midwife at La Red Health Center. This is not a comprehensive or exhaustive list or all job functions.

• Obtains and documents health history and assess the impact on the patient’s pregnancy and delivery.
• Provides patient care based on practice guidelines standards of care and federal/state laws and regulations.
• Performs pap smears
• Arranges for laboratory testing during pregnancy
• Advises patient on diet, exercise, and the effects of the environment and certain behaviors on the unborn child
• Educates patients about the birth process. Educates patients and families about pregnancy, health status and maintaining a healthful pregnancy.
• Monitors for complications during pregnancy and problem solve as needed to ensure the safety of both the mother and child
• Consults with Obstetrician and other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns. Refers high risk cases.
• Documents patient assessment, pregnancy progress and intervention and testing data using established EMR and documentation practices.
• Keeps accurate health records and complete reports as required by law.
• Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. Tracks quality assurance data and monitors prenatal and routine care management.
