The
Certified Medical Assistant performs basic clinical, administrative and clerical services for a licensed provider in compliance with Section 2070 & 2071 of the Business and Professions Code and Title 16 of the Medical Practice Act in the State of California within the
Certified Medical Assistant Scope of Practice within the
Certified Medical Assistant Scope of Practice.
- Administers medication, as ordered by the Provider, following the established policies and procedures and in accordance with the six rights of medication. A licensed Provider must verify correct medication and dosage prior to administration by the Medical Assistant. Documents all medications administered in patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
- Performs skin tests and/or simple or automated visual testing in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider.
- Performs electrocardiograms in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider.
- Applies and/or removes bandages, dressings, sutures, or staples in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider.
- Provides the patient assistance and instructions on the use of durable medical equipment (DME) in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider.
- Assists patients with ambulation and/or transfer using appropriate body mechanics.
- Prepares patients for examinations and/or procedures. (i.e. draping, posing, shaving, disinfecting site, etc. )
- Performs non-invasive routine support services under the supervision of a licensed physician in an office or clinic setting.
- Utilizing non-invasive techniques, collects and preserves specimens for testing in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider.
- Obtains and documents patient health information and history, and vitals and enter the information into the patient’s EHR.
- Provides instructions to patients as directed by the Provider.
- Triages and documents patient calls in electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Immediately notifies a Provider of any critical information regarding patient’s health.
- Participates in quality control activities which include maintaining all office files and logs as requested, including, but not limited to: Medication outdate check, refrigerator check (for temperature), and glucometer control check.
- Reviews charts for test results for previously ordered diagnostic testing on a daily basis. Immediately informs the Provider of any critical test result.
- Reviews patient charts prior to their scheduled visit and obtains any missing reports, test results, or any other documentation needed prior to the patient’s scheduled visit.
- Completes requirements related to Compliance, Meaningful Use, 5 Star and HCC.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent and Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. Certified Medical Assistant certificate required within 60 days of hire.
- One year recent experience in a physician’s office or clinic preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Good organizational skills. Excellent customer service and telephone skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others.
- BLS required.
