Certified Arborist / Tree Estimator

About the opportunity

In this position, you’ll join a highly experienced team of certified tree care professionals who are known for their excellent customer service, and ability to remove enormous trees using large cranes and equipment.

As our Certified Arborist and Estimator, you’ll serve as the face of Professional Tree Care Company Co. to the public. The person who fills this role must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing, be on time or early to their daily site visits, maintain a neat appearance, and follow up with every customer to ensure they’re happy with their bid and the work we’ve done.

Part scientist and part salesperson, you’ll advise clients about the work that is needed to maintain healthy trees including trimming, removing diseased and dying limbs, and, when necessary, removing dangerous or unhealthy trees. You’ll also supervise several work crews, guiding them to meet the terms of your bid.

Reporting to our Operations Manager and working alongside other CAEs (Certified Arborists and Estimators), our newest team member must have a vast knowledge of the types of trees in Northern California, have worked in the industry long enough to be able to identify trees that can be saved and those that must be removed. Ideally, you will have worked as a Climber, be physically fit, and hold a current certification as an ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker, or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional. Bonus points and an extremely competitive compensation package will be offered for anyone who is a Board-Certified Master Arborist.

Your Responsibilities Include

• Safely performing all aspects of arboriculture, including:
  • Educating residential and commercial clients about routine tree maintenance, plus insect and disease management
  • Visiting sites throughout the Bay Area to gather the information needed to create estimates
  • Developing estimates based on your knowledge of the amount of work needed to meet each customers’ desired goals and discussing them with customers on the phone
  • Providing on-site instructions to Crew Leads at the start of every job
  • Doing tree risk assessments
  • Identifying and performing tree inventories
  • Ensuring the health, safety, and beauty of trees
  • Learning, understanding, and adhering to all safety rules and company safety policies
  • Learning to hit bid targets (the number of hours allotted to each job each day)
  • Circling back with customers to ensure they’re happy with our work
• General Duties will vary but include:
  • Serving as part of a multi-person CAE (Certified Arborist & Estimation) team
  • Using our Field Service Management software, Arbor Gold, to improve the efficiency of our estimating, scheduling, dispatching, job management, job costing, and invoicing
  • Working with our accounting team to ensure your projects are billed and paid in a timely manner
  • Attending continuing education courses for ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional
  • Participating in routine safety meetings
  • Assisting with developing processes to increase efficiency

Requirements, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

• REQUIRED: You’re certified as an ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker, or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional
• Preferably, you’ve done this before OR it’s the next step on your career path; three or more years of experience in the tree industry as a Climber and/or Arborist with customer-facing experience
• The ability to direct planting, transplanting,
• You like customers, are a great communicator, and work well independently
• Comfortable with computers, writing arborist reports, and good at math
• You live within a 40-minute commute of Richmond, CA
• The standard stuff: Communication (accurate written, and verbal), time management, problem solving, being good with phone apps and computers. Clean and current California Driver's License. Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Physically fit, able to lift +/-40 pounds, and work comfortably at heights
• Soft skills: The ability to lead by example, being extremely hardworking and emotionally intelligent (having the ability to identify and manage one’s own emotions, as well as the emotions of others.)

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, year-round position with a starting hourly rate of between $35.00 and $42.00 per hour depending on your relevant work experience, fit for the role, and fit to our company culture. Overtime is paid at 1.5x and ranges from $42.50 to $63.00 per hour.

Work Environment

As our new Certified Arborist and Estimator, you’ll work full-time, Monday through Friday, on a variety of job sites throughout Northern California and your home office will be in Richmond, CA.
