Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Ceramicist to join our team, Castro Clay, a small neighborhood clay studio that will offer handbuilding, throwing and sculpture clay classes. We will be offering cone 5/6 firing, using glaze, underglaze and engobe to decorate our pieces. We will have around 25-30 members, small classes a few times a day, but not on weekends and youth classes after school 3 times a week. Please do not apply if you live out of State or too far from San Francisco to come in for an interview.
The person we are looking for is a bit of a "Jack of all trades", with an extensive knowledge of of Ceramics and have worked in a clay studio as a technician before with great references. This is a great opportunity to get in at the start and help create the space with us, we want the person for the job to feel as this is their studio as well as the community.
Your job would be to manage the everyday functions of the studio: load/unload the kiln, make and up keep glazes, keep a ledger of glazes that we will need to replace, make sure rules are being followed by members and students, teach or fill in if a teacher does not show up, empty clay trap, recycle clay and compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements discarding hazardous materials.

- Implement systems, processes, and procedures to increase efficiency and profitability
- Oversee warehouse operations and inventory control
- Ensure the organization is compliant with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in fine arts or a related field
- Previous experience as an Operations Manager is preferred
- Deep understanding of organizational effectiveness and operations management
- Excellent verbal and written communication
