Job/Department Summary:

Under general supervision, the Manager of the Boiler Chiller Plant serves as a member of the AVP of Facilities and Capital Projects' leadership team, sharing responsibilities for day-to-day operations within the FMS department. The incumbent is responsible for the planning and management of the boiler chiller plant and utility engineering programs at California State University, Chico. This position is responsible for the supervision of engineering personnel in a full range of utility engineering work including the HVAC, boiler, control systems monitoring, energy management, and project design support to minor and major capital projects on campus. In conjunction with the AVP of Facilities and Capital Projects, the incumbent oversees the operating budget and project schedule for the Engineering Services unit. The incumbent is responsible for managing the utility budget, reviewing usage, and making recommendations for energy saving projects. They are responsible for planning, organizing and directing projects, staff, and space utilization to ensure requirements are met for the boiler chiller plant and all HVAC related equipment.

Required Education and Experience:

Must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
AND
Three (3) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience managing personnel in trades maintenance.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Bilingual.
  • Experience in higher education, particularly experience with CSU system documentation, policies and methodology.
  • Possession of a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • More than five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in the installation, operation and repair of mechanical and/or electrical systems in an industrial, governmental, or commercial setting.
  • Experience with MS Project, SureTrak, TMA.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm. 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $54,996 - $176,556 per year.  (Admin II)

Anticipated Hiring Range:  Not expected to exceed $113,004 per year.  Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

This position is a Higher Education Employer-Employee Relations Act (HEERA) designated managerial position and comes
under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) of the California State University. Individuals appointed to management positions
serve at the pleasure of the President or designee. They are excluded from the collective bargaining process, are not subject to
probationary service, and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent.
Therefore, this is a "designated position" under the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will
be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices
Commission. Designated Group & Category: (Facilities Management and Services - Executive Director/Director/Supervisor/Project Manager, 1, 2, 3)

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

Incumbent will be required to operate a forklift (become certified and maintain certification) and drive a university vehicle.
