PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
For over 50 years, Central California Legal Services ("CCLS"} has represented and advocated for low-income individuals in the Central Valley. With more than 90 employees, our mission is to provide high quality, no-cost civil legal services to low-income individuals, families, and communities - improving the wellbeing of our Valley through systems-changing advocacy, client education, and legal work that meets individual clients' immediate needs. We also work closely with agencies and community organizations that share our commitment to support our clients in being their own agents of change.
JOB DESCRIPTION
With a budget of $13 million, CCLS has an immediate opening for an experienced Senior Grants Manager to oversee and grow its grants portfolio, which is comprised of public and private funds. The successful candidate is a key individual within the Development Department, working closely with the Development Director, and collaboratively with senior administrative, fiscal and program staff, to carry out the assigned activities.
Duties include a variety of tasks researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals/reports that support CCLS's goals and meet funding guidelines and criteria. The Senior Grants Manager assists in managing funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives. This position requires non-profit experience, strong writing, data analysis and outcome measurement, program budgeting, and project management skills.
Requirements
DUTIES
  • Research a variety of available funding opportunities which align with CCLS mission and program services to include new grant resources; assist Director of Development in prioritizing funding opportunities (public, foundations, corporations).
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify service delivery needs, objectives and outcomes that meet clients' legal needs; and maintain electronic documents needed for applications.
  • Actively prospect new foundation funders and maintain a pipeline of current foundation funders with a goal of increasing the budget by $500,000 within 18 months.
  • Coordinate with finance department and program staff to communicate on grant requirements, purpose and supports the development of grant budgets; establish and maintain a grant calendar for tracking applications and reporting deadlines; maintain documentation for application procedures and grant reporting; in collaboration with Director of Development, assist program and finance staff with reporting requirements and coordinate with program management staff to ensure course correction if needed.
  • Support administration to meet all requirements of grants and contract funding to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance; develop expertise in Legal Server database to ensure accurate information for service reporting, outcomes data, and grant deliverables.
  • Develop relationship with funders and grant administrators; provide support in grants and contracts administration; develop, write, and edit final progress and special reports to funders; responsible for coordinating with fiscal and program staff in preparation for meetings and monitoring visits with funders.
  • Collaborate with community partners in pursuit of cooperative applications for funding reaching out to nonprofit partners to secure letters of support, MOUs, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Previous grant writing and contract management essential.
  • Knowledge of Central Valley legal community helpful.
  • Experience in legal services preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills; significant experience in program and/or financial management.
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and execute the grant protocol.
  • Experience with a donor database preferred; such as Raiser's Edge, DonorPerfect, or Salesforce.
  • Must be flexible and capable of managing diverse tasks simultaneously; be organized; prioritize work plan and program solve; and have the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy; willingness to adapt to changing situations; must demonstrate initiative and independent accomplishment of job assignments and duties.
  • Effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public and co-workers; possess a high degree of maturity, integrity, and exercise good judgment.
  • Competency and experience with PC systems and standard software (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Desktop publishing and relevant databases).

  • Desire to learn: Successful applicants will have strong experience and a proven track record of success in the above areas but must also be willing and eager and continue to learn.
