Job Description
Compassion & Choices Action Network (CCAN) and Compassion & Choices (C&C) are seeking a person to assist in its work to build power for the movement to give all people autonomy over their end-of-life decisions. The Compassion & Choices Action Network is a 501(c)(4) organization that is separate but affiliated with Compassion & Choices. This person’s primary responsibility will be to lead CCAN efforts, with about 10% of their time spent supporting the efforts of Compassion & Choices, a 501(c)(3) organization.
This job is designed for a Digital Communications Specialist who has the skills to manage the digital needs for CCAN organizational priorities and electoral work. This position will actively liaise internally with staff across multiple states to engage in many facets of digital organizing including membership growth and engagement through grassroots fundraising, social media, email; the development of written, visual, and video content; and tracking and reporting on the metrics and data necessary to measure impact. This position will also lead on the targeting, development, and placement of digital ads across multiple different platforms, and maintain digital assets including websites, social media, YouTube Channel, etc. The responsibilities for this position may shift based on the employee’s strengths and the shifting political dynamics in target states, so a strong desire to learn and do new things and be a self starter is highly beneficial. Please note that this position is not responsible for the digital legislative work of CCAN.
This is a full-time, remotely-located, paid position reporting to the CCAN Political and Fundraising Director . Compensation offered will be commensurate with experience. This position will primarily be responsible for:
- Create written, visual, and video content tailored to the platform it will be disseminated on.
- Identify and execute digital engagement opportunities. This will include growing our membership, inspiring action and advocacy among our members, and grassroots fundraising across multiple platforms including social media and email campaigns.
- Work with the Director of Compliance to ensure compliance with IRS nonprofit rules, state and federal lobbying laws and regulations, and internal policies to protect the 501(c)(3) status of C&C.
- Assist in the implementation of integrated Digital Communications plans for CCAN’s electoral work.
- Create and monitor social media content.
- Create digital ad campaigns that include the targeting, creative content, compliance, and placement across multiple platforms and mediums. This could include working with outside vendors and other staff on the various elements of a particular ad or campaign effort.
- Serves as liaison for the Digital and Database Teams at strategy meetings by working with relevant staff.
- Work with the CCAN Political and Fundraising Director to ensure that digital advocacy and engagement is included in appropriate plans for the organization, state electoral efforts, nationwide fundraising, and grassroots organizing.
- Assure project workflow across multiple department work groups (programs, creative, social media, policy, development, federal, etc.), leading to preparation of timely and effective Digital Communications materials.
- Ensure Digital Communications products are always respectful, culturally competent, and inclusive.
- Complete required related reports in a timely fashion (e.g., expense reports, time cards, performance reviews, and weekly reports).
- Work closely with Accounting and Compliance to aid in the cost-sharing process between CCAN and C&C.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications (You will be a good fit):
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field is required — or an equivalency of related experience and/or education may be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years work experience related to political, digital organizing, or issue advocacy work.
- Excellent oral and written communication. Knowledge of or willingness to learn AP Style.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level attention to detail; ability to meet all deadlines.
- Strong HTML email knowledge. (CSS knowledge a plus)
- Experience with using an email automation system such as EveryAction, Salesforce, Eloqua, Marketo, or an equivalent
- Experience working in EveryAction or similar CRM, Vocus/Cision software, Google suite, MS Office.
- Experience using a CMS such as WordPress, Drupal, or something similar.
- Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
- Familiarity with marketing laws and best practices such CAN SPAM, GDPR, ADA compliance, and W3C standards
- Genuine commitment to being a team player and working across departments.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
