Step into a world of wildlife at the historic Central Park Zoo, a part of the Wildlife Conservation Society's network. First opened in 1861, the zoo has undergone a dramatic transformation, now offering a unique experience with diverse biomes ranging from the Tropic Zone to the Polar Circle. We're proud to be a part of a conservation effort that spans 120 years, with our team of over 4,000 dedicated to saving wildlife and wild places across the globe. Manhattan's Central Park Zoo is one of the oldest in the United States, having first opened at its current location in 1861. In the 1980s, the Wildlife Conservation Society took over the management of the park under a contract with the City of New York and embarked on a significant five-year transformation. Since its reopening in 1988, the zoo's mission has been to engage future generations of conservationists and nurture a passion for wildlife.
