Duties & Qualifications: Special EducationProvide specially designed instruction to students with disabilitiesInstruct students in academic subjects, using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition, in order to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests.Employ Special Educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, and other professionals to develop individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development.Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP's); conduct IEP meetings with staff and parents; attend MDT meetings as needed.Develop behavioral plans for students; teach students personal development skills such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy.Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.Provide assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.Assist in the coordination of placement of students with special needs into mainstream classes as appropriate.Work as a vital team member with other staff members.Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional knowledge.Supervise and plan assignments, and oversee ParaeducatorsMaintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program.When needed, provide instruction, support, or supervision on students developing adaptive skills such as toileting, dressing, and daily routines.Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.Excellent attendance and punctuality required.MusicDesign and maintain age appropriate music programDesign, teach, and evaluate daily musical lessons for the classroomProvide opportunities for students to demonstrate their musical abilities to other students, parents, and the community through concerts, assemblies, and other public performances.Plan, implement and evaluate classroom instructional activities consistent with building and adopted district curriculum.Diagnose and prescribe learning and training programs for individual pupils based on student aptitude and interest.Provide for individual needs of assigned students.Demonstrate effective teaching practices in a K-5th/6th grade music educational setting.Demonstrate positive classroom management techniques for the large classroom setting.Cooperate with principal, department, staff, and community in implementation of comprehensive instructional and activities program(s).Participate in appropriate activities, support programs, and building and district inservice education/training programMaintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program.Attend building/district meetings and conferences as required.Other related duties and responsibilities as assignedExperience working with other staff members to accomplish common goals and to develop appropriate instructionalConfer and communicate with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, in an open and positive manner to provide guidance, evaluation and encouragement of studentKnowledge of Professional Learning CommunitiesMaintain a safe and secure environment for allExcellent attendance and punctuality required.Qualifications:Washington Teacher Certificate with endorsement in Special Education along with a K-8 endorsement.Previous successful teaching experience with students with disabilities preferred.Elementary and/or middle school experience preferred.Previous experience with supervision of paraeducators preferred.Previous behavioral training preferredDemonstrate knowledge of "Best Practices" for SPED related issuesMastery knowledge of state and federal laws regarding students with disabilitiesPossess exceptional interpersonal communication skillsExceptional IEP writing skillsDemonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsExceptional ability to meet required compliance deadlines with caseload Physical Requirements:The job's functions requires the following physical demands:Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds);
