Job description

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Guided by the Director of Organizing, the CASA Director is responsible for all aspects of CASA?s work to fight displacement and build tenant power in the Southwest Bronx. This includes helping to build the membership of CASA, deepen the CASA leadership, oversee campaign work, supervise, support and train staff, fundraising and more.
Primary Responsibilities Include the following and are subject to change:

  • CASA Membership + Leadership: This includes managing the general relationships/membership of CASA, conducting one to ones; preparing for, facilitating and following up on monthly CASA meetings; managing and developing the leadership and membership of the leaders team, and preparing for, facilitating and following up on monthly Leaders? Team meetings.
  • Staff Development:
  • Provides direct supervision to senior staff (can include but not limited to Deputy Director, Lead Organizer and others) through weekly supervision meetings, review of work plans, and providing regular and consistent feedback.**
  • Coordinates regular staff meetings, staff trainings and staff retreats.
  • Hire, train, onboard, support and oversee the supervision of all staff.
  • Supports and enhances a culture that respects and honors diversity, invests in professional development, and encourages self-care.
  • Oversee Campaign Work: The Director supervises all of the campaign work of CASA, which includes reviewing all materials and providing feedback; attend planning, campaign and advocacy meetings as necessary, helping to develop the overall strategy, and more. The Director works to ensure CASA?s campaigns are in alignment with CASA?s larger vision and are conducted in a way that builds long term power, providing overall guidance and strategic oversight. Currently CASA is actively involved in two citywide campaigns and one budget initiative. The Director will provide guidance, strategy support and conduct advocacy work as needed, to ensure these campaigns are powerful and rooted in member leadership.**
  • Communications: Oversee communications work such as press releases, media advisories and finding resources to support staff in doing this work.
  • Fundraising: The Director is responsible for raising and maintaining funds which includes keeping accurate records to report on work, managing relationships with current and prospective funders, and applying for new funding. The Director is also responsible for reviving CASA?s grassroots funding model which includes gala, recruiting individual donors, etc.
  • New Settlement Organizational Participation and Administration: Meet regularly with the Director of Organizing, prepare updates on CASA?s work; Attend and actively participate in New Settlement activities which include Director?s Meetings and more; oversee all administrative work to order programmatic supplies, paying invoices, reporting deadlines are met, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds
  • 5+ years of community organizing, specifically experience with supervision, organizational development, base-building and recruitment, leadership development; Tenant organizing experience is a plus Strong track record of a commitment to social justice; demonstrated commitment to leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change; direct communication and conflict resolution, listen and motivate people to action from diverse backgrounds
  • High School diploma or HSE or GED required, bachelors, or associate?s degree preferred
  • Ability to facilitate, train, and develop leaders
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Ability to give and receive direct feedback from both members and staff
  • Speak, read, and write in Spanish

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.
