Job description

POSITION TITLE: Lead RN

DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Health

POSITION REPORTS TO: RN Manager of Behavioral Health

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Shifts: FULL TIME 6am - 5pm . Variable 6-2 pm, or a 7-3 pm or 8-4 pm or 9-5 pm. Always have Sundays off. Rotating Saturday coverage, hours on Saturdays are only 7am-1pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Licensure

  1. Graduate of an Accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred
  2. New York State license to practice as a RN and at least 5 years of applicable experience

Mental Requirements:

  1. Emotional stability and organizational skills necessary to meet the demands of a stressful environment and emergency situations.
  2. Good interpersonal relationships to interact in appropriate non-judgmental manner with various personalities relating to patients, peers, supervisors, physicians, other hospital staff, and outside agencies.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Audio visual acuity to interact appropriately with patients, peers, supervisors, physicians, and outside agencies.
  2. Knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding risks involved in exposure to blood borne pathogens

Work Experience:

  1. One to Three years' experience in providing supervision to professionals within an interdisciplinary team required, five years preferred.

Basic Function:

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:


50% Effort

  • Support and have a working knowledge of agency policies and procedures, goals, and departmental objectives.
  • Contribute to teamwork, act with integrity, strive toward excellence, treat all with respect, and exhibit commitment to the position.
  • Provide 24-hr administrative supervision for all staff assigned. Participate in the hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees.
  • Ensure OASAS/Medicaid regulatory compliance, Collaborates with contracted Medical Director, Nursing Staff, Direct Care Staff, Counselors, Directors, other Department Managers and Compliance Manager in quality assessment, assurance, and performance improvement activities. Uses tools and techniques of quality management to plan, design, measure, assess, and improve care
  • Liaison to the director in planning long and short-term goals for ongoing program development, process improvement standards compliance, maintenance of regulatory issues, and management of risk.
  • Ensures that Standards of Addictions Nursing Practice, including Standards of Care and Standards of Professional Performance are carried out by nursing staff, and that direct care nurses support standards of care in their interactions with clients in all programs/facilities.
  • Participate in and present incidents for Incident review committee

50% Effort

  • Complete nursing duties such as, but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, risk assessment, and withdrawal assessment, administer/dispense methadone, implement and utilize the necessary nursing interventions according to facility policy.
  • Educates patients about MAT therapies and their side effects. Counsels' patients re: personal hygiene, abnormal lab results, HIV/AIDs and HCV testing, and all medical matters including changes in treatment.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education and appropriate learning experience.
  • Triage emergent client medical issues and coordinate care with the Nursing Staff, PA, NP, Medical Director and outside providers.
  • Provide continuing education and appropriate learning experiences in accordance with OASAS and OMH requirements and CHS annual requirements.
