Position Description
Caretaker / South Zone Summary:
Under general supervision, performs routine manual labor tasks in support of the activities and operations of the Parks Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspects areas regularly for cleanliness and maintains parks, pavilions, rental spaces and other park facilities, including picking up litter, trash and graffiti removal.
- Drives pick-up trucks, tractors, and other motor vehicles with heavy equipment attached; operates professional type mowers, spray equipment, push mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, chain saws, and other equipment.
- Cleans and maintains equipment.
- Performs parks maintenance and repair of playground equipment, picnic facilities, drinking fountains, and restrooms.
- Cross-train on alternate assignments and perform duties in other work areas as needed.
- Supports setup and take down for special events.

Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
- One (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance and operating mowing equipment.
Licensure:
- Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record
- Help maintain excellent customer satisfaction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Must have the ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments
- Maintain a professional appearance and manner
- Maintain a clean work space
- Adhere to all County policies, procedures and safety standards
- Ability to work well with public and staff members
- Properly operate mowing equipment, hand and power tools and motorized utility vehicles safely

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Full-time | Regular
- Our parks are open 365 days of the year. The Parks Department works 4-10 hour shifts. Hours/days may vary based on business needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays will be required during special events or in times of emergency response/preparedness.

Reporting Relationship:
- Reports to: Foreman
Supervises: None
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
- Some exposure to mechanical, electrical and explosive hazards, dust, toxic and chemicals, and confined space work, using proper safety precautions.
- This is a physically active position which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires moderate physical exertion and exposure to dangerous tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals and pesticides.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
