Title: Caregiver 1
Duration: Temporary (with the opportunity to convert to full-time)
Location: San Jose, San Francisco or Fremont
Position Overview:
The Caregiver 1 position is an entry-level role within our healthcare organization, focused on providing compassionate and personalized home care and/or day center services to our clients. The Caregiver 1 will work under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being, safety, and comfort of clients. Caregivers provide the same services as a "Personal Care Attendant.”
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care Assistance:
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and mobility.
Medication Reminders:
- Ensure clients take their medications on time as prescribed, and assist with medication management as directed by healthcare professionals.
Meal Preparation:
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks according to dietary requirements and assist clients with eating when necessary.
Mobility Assistance:
- Help clients move safely around their home or facility, including transferring between bed, chair, or wheelchair.
Companionship:
- Engage clients in meaningful conversations, activities, and hobbies to promote emotional well-being and mental stimulation.
Light Housekeeping:
- Perform light housekeeping tasks such as tidying up living areas, doing laundry, and changing bed linens.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided, including daily activity logs and any changes in the client's condition.
Communication :
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, family members, and other team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Interacts and provides services to participants, families, and interdisciplinary teams, in a professional manner (i.e. encourage participation in conversation and activities).
Safety Monitoring:
- Regularly assess the environment for potential hazards and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of clients.
- Demonstrates safe practices, by utilizing proper body mechanics, adhering to universal precautions, and maintaining environmental safety.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one-year experience working with the elderly or frail population is required. No certification is required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary team.
- Flexible to work in multiple environments including home or center.
- Positive can-do attitude, conscientious, compassionate, thorough.
- Basic conversational English skills required; testing may be required.
- Bilingual may be required with the ability to speak primary language to care for participant population; language testing may be required.
- Able to translate/interpret basic information for supervisor/manager, participant and other caregivers; testing may be required.
- Able to document care related items in Basic English (e.g. check off items on flow/monitoring sheets, simple words, etc.) on designated forms or electronic health record.
- Physical requirements: Ability to stoop, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, and repeat motions of the wrist and hands. Must have visual acuity. Must be able to lift/move weight that is within the individual physical ability and use appropriate lifting devices or request assistance when needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in caregiving is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle physical demands of the job, including lifting or assisting with transfers.
- Empathetic and compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Must pass required background checks and screenings.
Required Vaccinations, and Tests:
- Cleared 2-step TB Skin Test: Candidate must complete a total of 2 TB tests prior to their start at. (X-ray, T-spot, or QuantiFERON accepted in lieu of the 2 TB tests. Note: T-spot/QuantiFERON blood test within the past 3 months are accepted).
- Cleared background check or Live Scan if applicable
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations and booster : If applicable, the candidate needs to arrange for the COVID booster
- Immunization Acknowledgement Form and records of immunizations : (MMR & Varicella are the only ones required). Please provide signed copies of these forms.
- Influenza Vaccination Declaration Form : Confirm temp received the flu shot or decline the flu shot.
- N-95 Respirator Fit Testing : N95 fitting before starting or during their 1st week of training.
