  • Position Summary
As a member of the Office of Student Success, this role serves as a coach, practitioner and educator for Chaminade students and alumni. Reporting to the Director of Student Success, they play an integral role in supporting the overall career management process for our undergraduate students both in-person and online through small group coaching, career programming, and career advising. The career advisor is the main point -of-contact for Chaminade University students, interested employers, and the community. The career advisor engages undergraduate students in promoting their professional development for career preparation and career attainment. The career advisor is responsible for establishing and maintaining employer relations, resulting in career and internship opportunities for Chaminade students. The career advisor is responsible for providing training to advisors within the Office of Student Success on general career advising, career-related event planning, and data management

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The career advisor will work closely with the five academic divisions, professional academic advisors, and the Office of Student Success. The career advisor will plan and coordinate support services, events, and speakers that promote student career & internship exploration in-person and virtually for all of our students to positively impact post-graduation outcomes and ensure equitable practices among learning modalities. While this position is the primary point of contact, they will also be responsible for providing training and support for greater outreach working with professional academic advisors. This position will also be responsible for employer relations, internship, and placement data management.

Career Advising Preparation & Training (50%)
  • Deliver best-in-class career coaching (in-person and remotely) in both 1:1 and in group settings for students and alumni in all matters related to their career management and professional development.
  • Assist with collection and submission of student employment data.
  • Design and/or facilitate career related programs, events, workshops, and course presentations for in-person and online students
  • Create career content for online use, leveraging a variety of platforms, tools and modalities to provide a high-touch accessible experience for students.
  • Analyze markets and trends as they relate to career paths and job search tactics
  • Develop and implement trainings for fellow advisors on career development skills and practices
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate career development resources and initiatives into academic programs and campus-wide events
  • Create engagement/marketing plan to recruit students into the newly established internships
  • Conduct outreach to students while in their internships
  • Manage issues related to students or internship sites
Employer Outreach, Education & Relationships Development (35%)
  • Identify, build and foster strategic relations with employers, deans, faculty and community members that result in an increased number of professional development opportunities such as employment and internships
  • Guide process and logistics for all aspects of on-campus and virtual recruiting (employer visits, recruiter information seminars, and interviews)
  • Serve as administrator for 12Twenty, Chaminade’s recruitment and career-management tool, provide training for students, faculty/staff and employers as needed.
  • Develop and implement supplementary programs with assistance from other staff including Career Fairs, Job Fairs, Opportunity Expos, career-related workshops and seminars with options for participation virtually and in-person.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with Alumni Relations to ensure appropriate sharing of career-related data and resources on campus.
  • Initiate and implement all aspects of programs related to internships and experiential education with faculty and employers by working with Deans and faculty to promote existing internships.
  • Keep abreast of educational, communications, technologies, and labor laws to apply them to new or existing programs.
  • Maintain memberships in related professional organizations.
  • Maintain social media sites to promote career related services
Data Management (10%)
  • Establish various outcomes and coordinate related data collection
  • Analyze and interpret data, prepare reports, and make recommendations based upon data results as needed with particular attention to impacts on retention
  • Present periodic reports for campus constituents.
  • Track internships in software
  • Build a system for tracking post-graduate outcomes of internship participants
  • Create and implement assessment for both internship hosts and student participants
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Other duties will be assigned to ensure smooth operations of the division and/or to assist with special projects as needed.

  • Education and Experience

Minimum
  • Bachelor’s degree in couseling, psychology, higher education, or a related field
  • Familiarity with job search strategies, resume writing, interviewing techniques, and networking in a professional context.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and build relationships with students, alumni, faculty, and employers.
Preferred
  • A minimum of two years of experience in career counseling, advising, or related roles in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency in using career services software, student information systems, and other relevant technology platforms.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software
  • Highly organized with strong personal management skills in order to meet the needs of a dynamic environment

  • Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

  • Other Requirements:
  • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
