POSITION SUMMARY:The Non-Invasive Cardiac technician will have an in depth knowledge of cardiac rhythm management, cardiac devices and cardiovascular physiology. The technician aids physicians by conducting non-invasive diagnostic cardiac tests on both inpatients and outpatients, maintains equipment and gathers cardiac testing data for physicians' review. Technical duties include remote and trans telephonic implanted device testing, performs all technical aspects of stress testing, nuclear stress testing, event and holter monitor application, reviews information from device and arrhythmia monitoring and prepares official report for Cardiologist to review, and performs Electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG) and brings abnormal findings to cardiologist attention when needed.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the general direction of the Manager, Non-Invasive and the direct supervision of the Lead Cardiac Technician and within established departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:Ø Level I:* Performs electrocardiograms, including placement of leads, length of recording and other similar procedures.

Records data for interpretation and charging.* Applies Holter and Event Monitors* Trains nurses and other designated personnel on correct use of the Electrocardiogram Machine, Holter Monitor, and Event Monitor equipment.* Answers telephone calls, takes and relays messages to appropriate staff members.* Reviews Electrocardiograms taken during closed department hours for completeness and reconciles Electrocardiograms as needed.* Ensures all Electrocardiogram reports are reconciled and assigns to the appropriate "In Box" at the Philips ECG reading station.* Replenishes supplies.* Maintains confidentiality of patients, department, and Catholic Medical Center matters.* Performs routing cleaning and preventive maintenance to ensure continuing functioning of equipment. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.* Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.* Assist with transporting patients from the Echo Lab back to the patient room. Observes patient during transport and notifies accepting staff of changes or difficulties with move.

Utilizes complete knowledge of portable O2 usage and connects patient to portable or wall O2 as directed by nursing staff.* Ensures clean linens are used for all transport equipment and follows all infection control guidelines and protocolsØ Level II:* Recognizes arrhythmia's on electrocardiogram and reports them to appropriate staff member.* Enters billing charges into the hospital computer system.* Maintains confidentiality of patients, department, and Catholic Medical Center matters* Assist the Non-Invasive staff with the charting process of Stress Charts.* Performs routing cleaning and preventive maintenance to ensure continuing functioning of equipment. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.* Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.* Applies holter and event monitors and scans holters, receives event transmissions and documents rhythm.* Manages various computer/network based arrhythmia programs to ensure appropriated patient follow up is scheduled.* Provides ongoing support for implantable devices, serving as resource for patient questions and troubleshoot problems as they arise.* Performs Electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG). Downloads Electrocardiograms from patient focus care areas.

Reviews for completeness and completes paperwork for review by physician.* Possess basic 12 lead interpretation skills and knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and the ability to recognize serious and life threatening arrhythmias.* Trains nurses and other designated personnel on correct use of ECG machine, Holter and Event Monitors.* Demonstrates and explains the basic principles for each area of responsibility to appropriate hospital staff and visitors. Answers phones, and relays messages.* Maintains daily supplies, forms and laundry to meet the needs of each area.* Assists the Manager Noninvasive Cardiology with reports, statistics and equipment evaluations.* Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.* Greets patients and directs them to appropriate departments. Verifies patient information is accurate, notifies the appropriate staff member of the patient's arrival.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Employee demonstrates knowledge of basic ECG interpretation, rhythm analysis, including abnormal rhythms and understanding of pacemaker/ ICD functions.

Organized self-directed individual with strong written and verbal communication skills and customer service focused. Knowledge of cardiovascular medical terminology, utilizes critical thinking and good judgment in performing of clinical tasks. Must possess strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities.1.

Ability to exert up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.2. Ability to organize and prioritize patient needs. Ability to demonstrate courtesy, compassion and respect in relating to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.WORK SCHEDULE:* Generally Monday through Friday day shift; May be required to work overtime occasionally* Weekends are required on a rotating basis.QUALIFICATIONSLevel I: Education:* High school diplomaExperience:* Basic knowledge of human cardiac anatomy, physiology, arrhythmias and acquired heart disease.* Prior experience in a fast-paced hospital and clinic based in cardiology, preferred.Certification:* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required* Currently registered with New Hampshire Board of Medical TechniciansLevel II: Education:* High school diploma* Course in basic arrhythmia interpretation required.* Prior medical office experience as well as experience in computer software application is desirableExperience:* Basic knowledge of human cardiac anatomy, physiology, arrhythmias and acquired heart disease.* Prior experience in a fast paced hospital and clinic based in cardiologyCertification:* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required* Active effort to achieve Certified Cardiovascular Technician (CCT).

For new hires, they will need to be certified by the first anniversary of their hire date. Existing employees will need to obtain CCT Certification within 2 years of signing off on the updated Job Description* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.* Currently registered with New Hampshire Board of Medical Technicians
