Cardiac PET Technologist - Rb-82 Generator Change-Outs

Basic Function: Specific Skills may include: Performance of Cardiac PET procedures for use by physicians in the diagnosing and treating of patient illness. Performs at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Requires independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to produce high quality images for diagnosis. Must ensure patient care and image quality is optimal. Must be able to operate the PET and/or PET CT equipment, ECG machine, Rb-82 infusion system, injector and emergency equipment accurately and safely. Must adhere to all NRC and/or State DEP rules and regulations. Manages radioisotopes, rubidium generator and pharmacologic stress agents safely. Patient care and preparation includes: providing pre and post education to the patient, obtaining IV access, placement of electrodes, review of patient’s history and assessment of the patient's condition, consultation with the physician, RN and/ or Advanced Cardiac Tech throughout the exam, preparation and administration of pharmacological agents, and radiopharmaceuticals. Monitoring patients during the procedure may include: monitoring the patient’s symptoms and vital signs during the exam, observing for signs and symptoms of allergic reaction or distress, documentation of various readings (ECG, BP, symptoms), ability to remain calm in a difficult situation. Other responsibilities include working constructively and efficiently with the office staff to facilitate smooth transition of the patients during the day, continuous interaction with patients and family members during the day, participation in troubleshooting, quality assurance studies, and in-service programs. The PET and/or PET CT Technologist must possess strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the human body. Must have the knowledge of growth and development, range of treatment needed and demonstrate a clinical thinking process specific to the age of the patients served. This employee must demonstrate support for customer and corporate policies and management decisions. In addition, the PET and/or PET CT Technologist must interact with clients, staff, patients and supervisory staff in a professional, cooperative and timely manner, at all times, and display appropriate customer relations’ skills and a positive and supportive attitude. The PET and/or PET CT Technologist is responsible for working the hours; shifts and locations assigned and deal appropriately with emergencies and last-minute changes. The PET and/or PET CT technologist must understand and agree that this listing is not a complete description and they will perform additional duties as directed by management of CDL Nuclear. The PET and/or PETCT Technologist is responsible for appropriately instructing new employees and coworkers and diligently applying the CDL Company Objectives of “Best Appropriate Patient Care”.

Qualifications:

Required: • Must be a High School graduate. • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine. • Must be Board Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board, current and good standing. • Must have current state license to practice Nuclear Medicine, current and good standing (If Applicable) • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Must have demonstrated creativity in improving work routines and in completing assigned projects. • Must possess expert communication, human relation and training skills to work effectively and compatibly with patients, supervisors, and physicians. • Must possess the professionalism and poise to deal with conflict and emergencies and adaptability to deal with change.

Preferred: • At least two years experience in Nuclear Medicine or Nuclear Cardiology. • At least two years PET and/or PET CT experience. • Experience with computer technology and media devices. • Registered/State Licensed CT certified for operation of PET/CT systems for facilities with PET/CT devices. (Attenuation only). • Willingness to transport Rb-82 infusion system via CDL Nuclear vehicles. Critical Performance Skill: Tolerance of Ambiguity, Energizing, Commitment to Task, Interaction, Flexibility, Versatility Working Conditions: Manual dexterity is required to adjust machine controls, arrange, attach, and adjust supportive devices. Ability to obtain satisfactory results by following set procedures and standards. Ability to contact patients who are under physical and/or emotional stress in order to properly position and take test. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination or treatment. May lift patients or assist in lifting patients on and off examination table. Prolonged standing required most of the time. Some pushing, pulling, reaching, etc. required during work period. Works inside a Nuclear Cardiology Suite. Electrical, magnetic and ionizing radiation hazards are present.
