The JCCSF Summer Camp is now hiring a Camper Support Coordinator for 2024!
Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Summer Camp is in session June 10 - August 16. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with children in a school or camp setting, experience organizing and planning youth programs, and experience supervising camp staff. This is a very front facing role, and someone who is outgoing and energetic is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support general counselors and specialists by creating support plans, behavior charts, and camper break schedules
- Work with paraprofessionals to coordinate camp schedules if applicable
- Manage budget for any support supplies
- Provide weekly activity communication
- Support with camper pick-up and drop-off process
- Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and fun environment for campers
- Ensure campers' safety at all times
- Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors
- Model appropriate behavior for campers and staff.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of camp leadership team
- Support staff. This includes meetings as necessary, and regular verbal and written evaluations.
- Help organize and lead staff training.
- Appropriately respond to crisis situations.
- Step-in for staff breaks if necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with children in grades K - 8, preferably in a camp setting.
- Ability to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.
- Ability to plan and execute creative activities for children.
- Ability to lead and motivate groups of campers and staff.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
- Dedication to and eagerness for working in camp, informal education and youth programs.
- Knowledge of summer camps.
- Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Clean driving record.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day.
Working conditions:
Will be working directly with youth ages 5-13 in a variety of locations frequented by the campers (classrooms, basketball gym, art studio, catering kitchen) and outdoors (field trips, sports field, playgrounds). The location will be dependent on the level of support needed at any given time.
DATES & HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Spring Schedule: Up to 10 hours per week in May after May 28, 2024
Summer Schedule: May 28, 2024 – August 16, 2024
8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
