Free Room & Board During Camp Season (Mid May - Early August)


PROGRAM OVERVIEW


Program:Camp K is an ACA Accredited Summer Residential Youth Co-ed Camp.

Location:Camp K is located in Copper Landing, AK on Kenai Lake.

Dates:All Staff training begins mid-May. Camp opens to youth in early June and runs through early August.

Time:Camp K offers several sessions throughout the summer ranging from 4 days to 9 days.

Staff Shifts:Camp K staff reside on camp premises during all camp sessions. Camp sessions range from 4 days/3 nights to 9 days/8 nights throughout the summer. There is personal time between sessions to enjoy the beautiful Alaska Summer.

Activities:While at Camp K youth are provided hiking, boating activities, outdoor games, art building, target sports, outdoor living skills and team building.


POSITION OVERVIEW:


Work Schedule: December 2023 - April 2024, 15 hours per week, hourly pay. May - early August, 40 hours per week, salaried.

Work Location: December - April, Camp Fire Office. May - early August, Camp K in Cooper Landing.

Reports to: Camp K Program Director

Supervises: Core Counselors and Counselors

FLSA: Seasonal, Non-exempt

Position Description:

Plays key role in overall leadership and supervision of Camp K overnight sleep away Summer Program, including all programming responsibilities, i.e. hiring practices, scheduling staff and youth management, health/safety, and overall training plan. Live on the premises of Camp during the summer season. Engage in work that supports Camp Fire's Promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice and discover who they are.


Overview of Day to Day Work:

From December through April you will be working primarily from the Main Camp Fire Office in Anchorage, assisting the Camp K director with hiring, by communicating with applicants, scheduling & conducting interviews and recommending candidates for hire. You will also support administrative work, camp prep activities and developing the summer schedules.

During Camp Season, from May - August you will support the day to day operations of camp. This includes being available to counselors, providing feedback and coaching, assisting in the completion of administrative work and participating in activities alongside campers.

To be successful in this position you will need to be flexible, dependable and outgoing. It is essential that you have supervision and camp experience.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in program administration.
  • Prior experience in staff supervision and management is required.
  • Current Adult/Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
  • Twenty-five (25) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
  • Valid Driver's License and eligibility to drive agency vehicles is required.
  • Prior camp experience, sleep away camp preferred.
  • Wilderness First Aid (required) certification or ability to attend a certification course once hired.
