Job Description
Position Summary:
Responsible for planning and design of Quest Camp curriculum and creation of all educational aspects of camp programming. Assists the Director with the creation, planning, and execution of all Quest Day Camps located at DREW University, F.M. Kirby Children’s Center, and Family Center. Leads in the staff development and curriculum training of all front-line camp counselors, ensuring a quality experience for campers focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Functions:
- Has and maintains current knowledge and understanding of all programs offered.
- Assists with developing, organizing and implementation of curriculum and programming for the Madison Area YMCA Quest Day Camps.
- Plans and designs curricula for CAMP EDUCATIONal programs; researching and designing educational goals and objectives for the camp season.
- Defines the needs of target populations; research trends at the national and state levels updating curriculum and activities based on market research and licensing guidelines.
- Coordinates activities for camp staff and faculty, ensuring full engagement in the implementation and administration of programs objectives.
- Creates, manages, and facilitates program activities, including classes, trainings, and other special projects.
- Writes, edits and coordinates development of course educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and other written materials as appropriate to the program.
- Ensures all activities adhere to Quest Day Camp guidelines and meet NJ Youth Camp Act standards and ACA standards.
- Provides camper advisement and support services and serves as a camper liaison and advocate with staff and faculty.
- Provides an energizing and fun environment for participants.
- Assists the Director in the recruitment, hiring and training of camp staff and volunteers.
- Participates in staff meetings and trainings, may lead, and guide the work in support of the camp staff.
- Acts in a supporting role to the Director in the ongoing training and development of the camp staff.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
All Staff will:
- Be paid a competitive wage.
- Attending 40 hours of mandatory training June 17th through June 21st, 2024, to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED certifications which will be provided through the Madison Area YMCA.
- Work up to 40 hours per week, days and times may vary.
- Be eligible for a 10 week stay cash incentive.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Enjoy, be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people: members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.
- High degree of accuracy with information provided.
- Multi-task oriented; effective organizational skills and able to take initiative.
- Must have excellent communication skills.

- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- General knowledge of Windows computer operating environment, Microsoft Office.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- The employee is required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard and use a telephone.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to view computer monitors.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency and exposure to bodily fluids is possible.
- Must be able to withstand being outdoors in heat, humidity, and rain.
