POSITION LOCATION: Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC), with placement at Camp Aspire in the Pipestone, MN area.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Camp Aspire Camp Counselor/Leader will organize activities, provide primary supervision, secure corporate partnerships, and provide a child-centered experience for students in grades Kindergarten through grade 6 for up to two weeks in the summer providing hands-on discovery through community, character, social-emotional, and project-based learning. The Camp Counselor/Leader bridge leadership and supervisory initiatives with the care and facilitation of all aspects of the camp prior to, during and after the summer camp.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Work collaboratively with SWWC Foundation and Director of Teaching & Learning to develop and stay within the budget for all camp activities;
- Develop relationships with key corporate and community partners to secure donations to sponsor Camp Aspire;
- Organize day-to-day activities and local hands-on field trips within the community;
- Collaborate with presenters and inform presenters of what Camp Aspire learning outcomes are being targeted in the activities;
- Manage large group activities and small group centers;
- Pick up meals from the local school for breakfast and lunch (Summer Lunch Program) and adhere to the programs rules about food distribution;
- Develop, organize, and share advertising materials with local school districts to recruit campers;
- Develop and Maintain registration system and emergency records for all campers;
- Maintain and improve the health, safety, and well being of Campers and other camp support personnel, including physical, intellectual, emotional and social health;
- Manage medications for students (epi pens, prescriptions, etc.)
- Motivate campers and support personnel to enthusiastically participate in all camp activities and events;
- Effectively communicate with campers, staff and parents;
- Assists the campers in using age appropriate self-management skills including problem solving, decision making, communication, listening, conflict resolution, anger management, social skills, and recreational skills;
- Provides good public relations and customer service with member districts, staff, parents, and the general public;
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree required; Bachelor's degree in education related field preferred; minimum 3 years' experience working with students; experience with positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies. CPR and first aid certification required. Valid driver's license is required.
CONTRACT/SALARY: Up to 15 day position to begin as soon as possible. Salary dependent upon education, qualifications and experience.
