About Us:

Barhoma Law, P.C. d.b.a Power Trial Lawyers, is a prestigious legal practice that is actively seeking an accomplished California Appellate Lawyer to join our team. Renowned for our commitment to legal excellence and client success, we are in search of a seasoned professional to lead our appellate practice with at least 3-5 years of experience and a demonstrated history of strong legal drafting.

Responsibilities:

For this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Legal Research and Analysis:
  • Conduct exhaustive legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations.
  • An ability to learn seminal California penal codes (i.e., Penal Code §§ 1172.1, 1172.6, 1172.75, 3054, etc.)
  • Analyze and synthesize legal precedents to craft compelling and innovative legal arguments.
  • Must be capable of pulling together relevant case law and drafting strong legal analysis in a clear and concise manner.
  • Legal research and drafting for California appellate courts and California Superior Courts
  • An understanding of the California Rules of Court
  • **Brief Writing:
  • Draft meticulously researched and persuasive appellate briefs.
  • Ensure compliance with court rules and formatting requirements for the appellant courts and the superior courts.
  • **Motion Drafting:
  • Craft superior court Penal Code 1172.1, 1172.6, and similar briefings and petitions.
  • Prepare California superior court writs of habeas corpus and other relevant documents.
  • **Case Strategy Development:
  • Collaborate with trial attorneys to formulate effective and strategic appellate approaches.
  • Assess the potential for success on appeal and provide strategic guidance.
  • **Client Advocacy:
  • Advocate on behalf of clients by crafting compelling legal arguments.
  • Represent clients in appellate proceedings with a focus on achieving favorable outcomes.
  • **Collaboration with Legal Teams:
  • Work closely with paralegals, legal assistants, and co-counsel for seamless case management.
  • **Appellate Record Management:
  • Oversee the compilation and management of appellate records, including transcripts and exhibits.
  • **Compliance with Appellate Rules:
  • Ensure strict adherence to appellate court rules and deadlines.
  • File documents in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Conducting Case Reviews:
  • Collaborate with the team of staff members and lawyers in finalizing case reviews. Case reviews consistent of reviewing records and recommending potential options, remedies at law, and arguments.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated success in handling complex appellate cases.
  • Preference - strong clerkship experience and/or appellate court experience
