A Duneland School Corporation Cafeteria Aide assists in maintaining an orderly, safe and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria by helping and supervising students at mealtime in accordance with Board policy and established district procedures. All Duneland employees interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Supervision and guidance of students in the cafeteria in an efficient and friendly manner
  2. Provide exceptional level of customer service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers and other staff members.
  3. Keep the cafeteria safe, orderly and organized.
  4. Assist students with meal items as needed.
  5. Observe safety and security procedures.
  6. Uses equipment, materials and cleaning supplies properly.
  7. Maintain cleanliness of cafeteria including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing tables, cleaning debris and spills from floors and assisting with trash removal.
  8. Maintains and cleans cafeteria equipment to meet local, state and federal sanitation standards.
  9. All Nutrition Services employees are required to attend all in-service training.
  10. All employees must accept delegated authority.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor

  6. Proficiency in the use of all sanitation equipment and supplies.

  9. Ability to remain calm and professional during times of high stress.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (includes equipment, hours, physical demands)
Work Environment: This position typically works in facilities with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of food service sanitation.
Hours: This position is a part-time position and is expected to work from 1 to 4 hours daily. Normally 7:00-8:00 am and then again 10:15-1:15 daily. Summer hours will be adjusted as per the Child Nutrition Manager to assure adequate coverage throughout the summer period. Evening, weekend and holiday activities will be scheduled as necessary.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by all Duneland School Corporation Cafeteria Aides to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
