Our client, a Women’s specialty online retailer known for their contemporary polished style, is seeking an experienced Buyer who has worked in a mixed brand environment, ideally working well known US and European designers as well as smaller, emerging designers. The ideal candidate has had some experience negotiating exclusives or special cuts reserved for a resource. Can also be from a better department store or specialty store but must bring entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in growing a business. Candidate should be a team player and comfortable working in a less structured, dynamic, and fast-paced environment. This role requires creative thinking, analytical rigor, excellent written and oral communication skills, detail orientation, and the ability to work independently and to prioritize. Lastly, the ideal candidate has a keen sense of brand, customer, fashion trends, and an awareness of industry innovation in e-commerce. This NYC hybrid role has a salary range of 95-125k based on experience.
Responsibilities:
Develop and lead buying strategies based on an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the customer
Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape for both Apparel and Accessories
Define and develop brand matrix via vendor meetings, tradeshow attendance, and market research
Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships and proactively identify new business opportunities with partners
Negotiate vendor terms and discounts and analyze profitability to drive decision-making
Analyze and forecast sales performance to drive product selection and category development
Review assortments and orders with the directorBuy according to seasonal receipt targets and ensure appropriate flow of receipts
Manage the timely placement and maintenance of purchase orders
Help manage OTB to ensure sales, turn, margin, and inventory levels are on target
Present seasonal strategies, assortments, and product knowledge to cross-functional teams
Partner with the Marketing team on a seasonal and weekly basis to support sales
Negotiate vendor co-op $
Mentor and develop junior members of the buying team
Qualifications:
Work experience: 5-7 years of buying experience including experience within women’s ready-to-wear
E-commerce multi-brand experience preferred
Technical skills: Google Suite / Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to work in the NY office 2 days per week
Elevated taste level and share a love for fashion, color, brands, and trends
