Primary Duties
The City of Waco seeks a talented professional to join the Human Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a collaborative, energetic, and creative team! The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in human resources, customer service skills, relationship building skills, and possess excellent communication skills. They will support the HR department with personnel actions related to Police and Fire department employees following City of Waco policies, Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code, Civil Service Commission Rules, agreements with associations, and other applicable regulations.
What you will do
- Supports and assists with all processes required by the applicable Civil Service code. Approves Civil Service personnel actions related to new hires, separations, promotions, step increases, salary increases, and other miscellaneous changes when necessary.
- Assists with coordinating Civil Service Commission meetings and hearings; arranges locations and times; gathers and distributes documents and materials.
- Provides first-level contact as a liaison between HR and the Police and Fire departments.
- Assists Director with maintaining eligibility list and determining applicants' placement on the list.
- Provides accurate information on and/or interpretation of Texas Local Government code, Civil Service Commission Rules &Procedures, and Civil Service agreements with the City.
- Maintains Civil Service Human Resources records; assists with responding to open records related to these records.
- Consults with management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
- Assists with communication to internal and external stakeholders, including notices, memorandum, letters, and the intranet.
- Driving is essential.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- One year experience of progressively responsible Human Resources, public or business administration, or related experience
- OR an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Preferred:
- PHR or SHRM-CP
