Job Summary
The Business Manager is responsible for managing the business and administrative operations of the Strategic Alliances and Translations portfolio. The Business manager will represent the portfolio on business affairs to the Rensselaer community and will serve as a resource to the leadership and staff to ensure consistent financial and budgeting practices that comply with Institute and Portfolio guidelines. Actively participates in the short and long range financial and performance planning of the portfolio. Oversees business staff within the portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or similar field
- Five (5) years of related progressively responsible experience in the administration, monitoring and management of budgets, including research and/or other closely related types of restricted funds and two (2) years of management and supervision experience
- Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Experience in higher education or research setting
- Familiarity with federal and state government regulations as they pertain to research administration
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to analyze and interpret reports, documents and statistical data
- Ability to perform budget reporting and forecasting, as well as account reconciliation
- Knowledge of financial software, including spreadsheet, database, and data warehouse applications
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite software applications
- Ability to learn and/or use SCT Banner finance, position control and labor modules or other appropriate applications
- Knowledge of fund based budgeting in a non-profit setting
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work as individually or as part of a team
- Attention to detail
- Organizational skills

Starting Salary/Rate
Expected hiring range: $ $86,500 - $95,000
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate's salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
