Business Intelligence Engineer | 100% remote opportunity (must live and work in the U.S- without sponsorship)
General Summary:
The Business Intelligence Engineer is a key member of our Business Intelligence team. The Business Intelligence Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of data pipelines and creation of queries used by the BI team to support data-driven decision-making.
The Business Intelligence Engineer has a deep understanding of the application of big data to complex business questions. The BI engineer designs and builds semantic layers that provide business-ready data to best support Business Intelligence analysts and self-service BI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design scalable and repeatable data pipelines and advanced queries for use by Business Intelligence analysts and other report designers, with the goal of translating data into meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Designs and develop semantic data layers for use in Tableau with data sourced from Databricks, Snowflake, or AWS Aurora for Business Intelligence and self-service user consumption.
  • Participates in upgrade and migration projects from legacy to a modern BI platform.
  • Ensure solutions meet operational requirements, such as scalability, maintainability, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability, manageability, and security.
  • Schedule, automate, and track reporting consumption.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on best practice uses of Business Intelligence (BI) platforms
  • Works on special projects for the department as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • 5 years' experience in data engineering and/or Business Intelligence Engineering.
  • Experience with creating semantic data layers for consumption in Tableau, Cognos, and other Business Intelligence platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge of relational database structure, programming concepts, external data sources, and experience working with complex data systems
  • Ability to compose and optimize SQL data queries and evaluate results
  • Experience combining internal and external data for in-depth industry analyses
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Superior time management skills, able to multi-task and focus on multiple priorities
  • Ability to learn on the fly and grasp new concepts quickly

Preferred:
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, data mining, and/or data science concepts
  • Experience working with integrated development environments (IDE), such as Databricks
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted for the requirements listed above.
Work Environment:
Remote: This role is a REMOTE opportunity, but only open to candidates currently located in the United States.
  • It requires a suitable space that provides a private and quiet workplace.
  • EXPECTED WORK HOURS: Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
  • TRAVEL: May be required to travel to off-site location(s) to attend meetings, as necessary
