Business Intelligence Analyst

McCarthy is seeking a full-time Business Intelligence Analyst who will collaborate with teams across the organization to understand business processes and develop reports and dashboards that provide timely and accurate information and promote data-driven, intelligent business decisions.

As part of the Work Flex policy, McCarthy provides the option to work from home 1 day a week.

Primary ResponsibilitiesBusiness Analysis

• In collaboration with business partners, develop in-depth understanding of key operational processes, needs and underlying business drivers.
• Facilitate discovery sessions to gather data and reporting requirements.
• Represent the voice of the customer to the Enterprise Solutions and Analytics team and IT in general to ensure user needs are being met.
• Provide formal and informal analytics training to partners and assist business users to integrate analytics in their processes and workflows.

Solution Analysis, Design and Development

• Analyze data to extract market and business trends to increase safety, profit, performance, and efficiency.
• Design, build and implement reports and dashboards using Power BI. Leverage capabilities including Power Query, Power Pivot and Power BI Service in developing solutions.
• Leverage best practices and design patterns in implementing solutions. Actively contribute to establishing McCarthy’s design principles for reporting analytics solutions.
• Promote reusability by making use of existing components and capabilities such as Power BI Dataflows.
• Develop a working knowledge of database modeling techniques including relational database design and data warehouse design using star schema.
• Develop a solid understanding of McCarthy’s Business Intelligence infrastructure including SQL Server databases and Azure Data Factory.
• Strive to maintain a robust reporting and analytics environment to promote long-term growth and flexibility. Assist in developing a robust data architecture for analytics and reporting.
• Support procurement of new platforms and tools by evaluating technical capabilities.
• Monitor and audit report usage and adoption. Analyze shortfall in adoption and recommend corrective actions.

Support and Administration

• Provide technical support and guidance for efficient and effective resolution of issues. Respond to queries from business and IT partners in a timely manner to minimize disruption.

Security

• Ensure reporting solutions and infrastructure follow McCarthy’s security practices and guidelines.

Project Planning and Execution

• Follow best practices and support organizational effort in managing projects and tasks effectively. Utilize Agile project delivery practices to plan, execute and support analytics initiatives in a collaborative manner.

Continuous Learning and Improvement

• Constantly seek to improve current solutions. Identify opportunities to improve performance, reduce manual effort and improve end-user experience.
• Keep up with latest on tools and platforms by attending vendor events and continuous learning and development.

Internal Relationship Management

• Develop strong partnerships with internal IT staff and business partners to ensure solutions address McCarthy’s needs effectively. Work closely with business analysts and application teams in understanding requirements and building solutions that promote data-driven decision making.

Skills and Qualifications

• 3-5 years using Power BI (including DAX, Power Query M, and the Power BI Service) in a business setting.
• 3-5 years working with Microsoft SQL in a business setting.
• 3-5 years of experience in business analysis
• Knowledgeable of visual design best practices
• Experience delivering BI solutions within an agile project team, ideally as a product owner
• Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
• Azure Data Factory and/or experience with setting up and operating ETL/ELT pipelines preferred
• Understanding of dimensional modeling concepts preferred
