The Business Development Senior Manager - California is an integral part of Latham’s Business Development team. This role will be responsible for supporting the firm by providing strategic oversight of the California Business Development team to create effective market strategy and strengthen overall connectivity. The California offices are comprised of attorneys across all disciplines and have clients across the globe. In leadership of the California regional team, you will work with colleagues across all business verticals to support and drive revenue growth opportunities while maintaining a regional focus and leveraging the global perspective of the competitive market landscape to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of the goals and objectives of the firm, while managing the day-to-day operations of the office Business Development (“BD”) team, and coordinating the work of the staff to ensure department and regional objectives are met timely and accurately and general oversight, as well as working collaboratively on strategic projects and initiatives. This role will be located in either are San Francisco or Silicon Valley office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 


Other key responsibilities include:

  • Management
    • Developing and helping to drive new programs and associated budgets with local and global leadership
    • Acting as liaison and dot-connector between the global and local leadership and office/regional teams
  • Client Development
    • Operating as a marketing/Business Development advisor to individual lawyers and local/regional teams
    • Focusing on measurable impact or improvements by market, practice and industry within the region
    • Achieving fluency in our client base and supporting and driving efforts to create relationship building opportunities
  • Strategic Planning
    • Collaborating with the local and global leadership, creating the overall strategies, goals, and objectives for the BD staff in support of office(s), region, sector(s), and/or client(s) as assigned; creating and overseeing plans, programs, and budgets in support thereof
    • Driving the implementation of BD tactics and initiatives to support the strategic objectives of the office(s), region, sector(s), and/or client(s) as assigned
  • Marketing Communications
    • Coordinating with the Global Public Relations (“PR”) team to insure local/regional/industry BD and PR efforts are complementary; ensuring that significant matters are publicized internally and externally in accordance with the firm’s public relations policy and resources
    • Overseeing maintenance and currency of all local/regional/industry Marketing/Business Development content, including lawyer bios, practice profiles, and relevant experience lists

We’d love to hear from you if you:

 

  • Possess knowledge of core marketing principals including internal communications, public relations, seminar/event planning, branding, market research, competitive intelligence, credentials and RFP response preparation
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills (i.e., organizing, planning, problem-solving and decision-making) necessary for effective management
  • Display well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm and present information to the benefit of leadership

And have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible Business Development and marketing experience in legal/professional services
  • A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory/management experience
