Position Overview


The Business Development Executive will be responsible for initiation and overall management of all Business Development related activities for the Ames Renewables group.  This individual will collaborate and work directly with both the Preconstruction and Operations teams in support of overall Company growth and margin enhancement initiatives. Target market(s) currently includes securing EPC opportunities in the U.S. utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) markets. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Understand target markets including but not limited to peers, partners, industry, project, and company contacts.
  • Act as an Ames ambassador by attending industry, political and community functions while representing Ames core values.
  • Identify and collect market metrics, seek strategic business opportunities for Ames, successfully manage upstream and downstream business relationships, and share in the oversight, preparations and follow-through for all recommended project pursuits.
  • Develop short and long-term strategic plans based on market conditions, trends and opportunities that will reach business goals and objectives.
  • Present strategic plans that increase revenue (i.e. Project, Client, Region, Scope, etc.) to Leadership for approval and execution.
  • Develop, maintain and expand positive industry relationships with clients, suppliers, consultants, and other organizations that contribute to the growth of the business.
  • Engage and contribute on all initial LNTP and EPC contract negotiations with the Client.
  • Support Ames project teams on current contract understanding, including attending project kick-off meetings to strengthen relationships with clients and client’s representatives.
  • Track and report results of market growth initiatives, sharing insights and experience to recommend any changes moving forward.
  • Communicate with leadership on current project opportunities, statuses and relationships.
  • Work closely with other corporate functions, such as Marketing and Sales, to develop and understand business requirements and market needs.
  • Responsible for managing data on opportunities, clients, and pursuits in the Ames CRM database.
  • Keep informed of new technologies and processes that could lower costs and/or improve quality.
  • Works with Preconstruction Manager(s) to review and approve components of the bid package, submittals and decisions through the process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience, Education & Skills


  • Five or more years of construction and/or engineering direct sales or Business Development in the energy or renewable industry.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Onsite construction execution experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to establish relationships with decision makers, based on trust and integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure new clients and close on new work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering, procurement and construction.
  • Strong listening and negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with CRM software preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Outlook, and related software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal structure while exercising sound judgment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Up to 50-75% travel is required.
  • Projects are nationally based.
  • Construction Site Environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels.
  • Office Environment – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
