The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Business Analytics Analyst, operating under the guidance of the Associate Director of Business Analytics, actively investigates analytic requests and issues. They identify, define, document, create, and maintain analytic solutions, such as reports, dashboards, and data extracts from various data sources within the organization, including revenue, accounting, clinical information, practice management EHR systems, human resources, and more.In this role, the Business Analytics Analyst collaborates with operational, academic, and clinical staff, including senior leadership, to review analytic requests, provide updates on progress, set expectations, plan, and implement products and services to meet the needs of users, enterprise reporting, and data analysis.

To excel in this position, the analyst should have a good grasp of institutional business intelligence tools, key content, and related data models. Additionally, strong customer service, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Analytic Solution Development and Effective Communication: Collaborates with end-users to understand their analytic needs and requirements, provides guidance on optimal current and possible solutions, and transforms operational definitions into application-specific specifications. Demonstrates clear and concise concept mastery when working on assigned tasks and communicating with customers and peers. Communicate clearly, precisely, and error-free. (40%)
  • In-Depth Data and Workflow Understanding: Researches workflows and understands how they populate various data models in depth; engages in knowledge transfer exercises with IT application and operational experts as needed. Manages assigned projects by asking well thought-out questions and provides appropriate follow-up to ensure timely and effective work completion. (25%)
  • Project Management and Technical Writing: Scopes, develops, distributes, and provides support for content in a timely manner, using Epic’s proprietary suite of BI Tools and additional institutional BI applications. Takes ownership of assigned incidents and requests by performing in-depth analysis and creating detailed intake forms. Prioritizes multiple requests and maintaining a support relationship with all users. (20%)
  • Data Compliance and Best Practices: Maintains knowledge of policies, standards, and best practices, internal and industry-wide, including HIPAA, IRB, and data governance policies and procedures, to ensure all deliverables meet those standards. (5%)
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in using data tools and technologies, including Epic's proprietary BI Tools, SQL Server, Power BI, Cognos, and other BI tools as needed. (5%)
  • Other Duties: Performs other job-related duties as needed. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of Revenue Cycle reporting experience.
  • Four years of related full-time work experience; significant relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • At least one EPIC certification in a related application. If not present at the time of hire, it must be acquired within 6 months of employment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Technical Writing or similar discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Excellent decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on detail and follow-up.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hospital or academic data and reporting.
  • Experience with Epic report development and application-focused data models and workflows.
  • Experience with Power BI, Cognos, and/or other popular BI tools.
