POSITION TITLE: Bus Operator Route 90 Dorsey Street/Cherokee Hills
LOCATIONS: Route 90 Dorsey Street/Cherokee Hills Changes and specific details and garaging point to be determined by the Transportation Director as needed.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The school Bus Operator shall maintain positive work habits, perform duties efficiently and productively and maintain and/or upgrade skills. Further, it shall be the duty of the school Bus Operator to:
- Obey all traffic laws
- Observe all Federal, State and Local safety regulations for school buses
- Maintain discipline, within county practices and guidelines, when students are on bus
- Assist special education students as needed
- Report to proper authorities any student involved in misconduct
- Keep his/her bus clean both inside and out
- Run on time, the bus schedule as assigned to him/her
- Perform pre-trip inspections before each run as prescribed by State and Local regulations
- Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
- Discharge students only at stops authorized by the Transportation Director
- Exercise responsible leadership when on extra-curricular school trips
- Transport only students authorized to ride the school bus
- Report all accidents and complete all required State and Local accident reports
- Attend, and actively participate in, all in-service training classes provided by State and County school officials
- Attend all staff meetings called by the Transportation Director, and faithfully complete all records, schedules, and other paperwork required
- Other duties and assignments may be made by the Transportation Director, as deemed necessary and appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Each operator shall familiarize himself/herself with and abide by the contents of the handbook, West Virginia School Transportation Regulations.
A school Bus Operator must hold a valid WV Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements and a WVDE School Bus Operator Certification. All Bus Operators must meet training requirements and all health and age requirements of the State and Local Boards of Education. All Bus Operators must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the State of WV and administered by a licensed physician.
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 2023-2024 school year with anticipated start date of August 16, 2023. (Normal contract: 200 days)
HOURS: Hours to include route time, pre-route inspection time, bus custodian care time, county inspection time, and trips to accommodate program needs.
