A day in the life…
All new TCAT Bus Operators undergo a comprehensive training program consisting of time spent in the classroom and on-the-road. Upon successfully obtaining your Commercial Driver’s License you will spend time in revenue service training familiarizing yourself with routes and solidifying your driving techniques with our team of Driver Trainers. Our program will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in your new role.
As a Bus Operator you will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation to TCAT passengers while delivering exceptional customer service. Driving a transit bus on a variety of routes throughout Tompkins County, you will play a pivotal role in connecting people to education, healthcare, employment and popular area destinations. Your day will include checking in with dispatch, performing vehicle inspections, navigating your route, monitoring fare box collection, and providing information and assistance to the public. Every day on the road gives you the chance to develop and refine your skills, making for a challenging yet highly rewarding experience.
Pay
- $25.66 per hour + $1.00 per hour nightshift differential
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in customer service. A commitment to safety, strong communication skills, the ability to read and follow written instructions, the ability to work with a team and independently, and strong judgement skills are a must. CDL-B with passenger and airbrake endorsements is a plus.
Hours: This position requires full availability including nights, weekends and weekdays. Scheduling is determined by a seniority-based bidding process; as you build seniority you will have the ability to bid on a wider selection of work assignments.
Union Membership: TCAT, Inc. is a union shop. Bus Operators will become members of the UAW Local Union 2300 upon successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
