NVFS’ breadth, depth and scope of services offer the resources and support to ensure that everyone in need, at every stage of life, maximizes their potential and fully contributes to a thriving community. At NVFS, we value the diversity of backgrounds, experience, perspectives, and skillsets that we collectively provide to our community, clients and coworkers. We celebrate and thrive on our differences and welcome everyone’s unique contributions.

Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire a Bus Monitor to join the NVFS Early Childhood Education/Head Start Center in Prince William! As the Bus Monitor, you will mainly be responsible for the safety of children getting on and off the bus, including a safe transition between the bus to and from their parent, guardian and classroom teacher. As the Bus Monitor, you will ensure that children are safely secured in their seats and that any gear is properly secured.

This is a full-time split shift position that is combined with a 3.5 hour classroom aide position or assistance with food and nutrition services (unless specifically designated as a part-time or temporary hourly position).

As the Bus Monitor, you will be on the bus from 7:30 AM-9:30 AM and will work as a Teacher's Aide in the classrooms after. You will get back on the bus during drop off between the hours of 1:00 PM-3:00 PM.

Benefits and Compensation: We want you to be well, have work/life flexibility, grow your career with us, and have the resources and support you need. Check out our comprehensive benefit offerings here in support of various dimensions of your wellbeing.

This position has an hourly rate of $16.42.

In this role, you will:

  • Greet all parents and children helping children get on and off the bus, and assist in securing them in a seat; ensure that parents or teachers record each child’s arrival and departure
  • Prioritize safety of children while getting on, departing, and riding the bus
  • Remain sensitive to the child’s needs; make children feel comfortable and secure
  • Ensure that all children are accounted for and file appropriate written attendance sheets; decide when children are returned to the Center because of the unavailability of an appropriate authorized adult to receive the child.
  • Assist children in an emergency evacuation or with first aid if required.
  • Report any concerns about children to Center Manager, Family Advocate(s), or Lead Teacher(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to serving meals in the center, organizing or distributing supplies in the classrooms, running errands with Bus Driver between centers, and assisting with field trips.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May be assigned to supervise, train, support, and/or collaborate with volunteer(s) and/or intern(s).

Your Background:  We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.

  • High School diploma; encouraged to pursue further early childhood education
  • Experience working with young children aged 3-5 years
  • Oral and written fluency in English; Spanish fluency preferred. Additional language skills always welcome.
  • Attendance reliability
  • Ability to follow the Head Start guidelines for working with children
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals
  • Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability

Additional Requirements:
