During the last two weeks in July and the month of August, this job posting will be posted for a minimum of (2) two days as per the support negotiated agreement. JOB TITLE: Bus Driver with CDL
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Complete five day training school.
  2. Be approved for Standard Certificate by the SDE & maintain certification.
  3. Must have CDL certification, Class B or greater with SP endorsement.
  4. Clear driver violation check through the State Department of Motor Vehicle.
  5. Must pass a National Criminal History Record Check.
  6. Freedom from the use of habit forming drugs. Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with DPS random drug test policy.
  7. Ability to get along with others and develop a good driver/student rapport on routes.
    1. Ability to maintain structure and discipline on the bus.
  8. Good moral conduct and honesty.
  9. Pass an annual health exam as mandated by SDE and DOT regulations and maintain the health and energy necessary to meet the responsibilities of this position.
  10. CPR certification

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
DUTIES:
  1. Know and observe the provisions of the uniform traffic code and the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education that apply to the driving of a school bus.
  2. Carry out all policies set by the Board of Education.
  3. Carry out all rules and regulations in the Bus Driver's Handbook.
  4. Keep all certificates and licenses valid.
  5. Account for the behavior of all students on the bus.
  6. Report to the proper officials those traffic violations that affect the school bus and its passengers.
  7. See that the bus fuel tank is full before leaving each day and perform a proper pre/post trip inspection.
  8. Conduct emergency evacuation drills the second semester of the school year (within two weeks of the beginning of the semester).
  9. Safety equipment and first aid kit must be checked out before departure.
  10. Ensure each rider is authorized to board the bus.
  11. Prepare Student Conduct Reports as needed and send them to appropriate personnel.
    1. Keep the interior and exterior of the bus clean at all times
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
  13. Execute any/all duties as deemed appropriate. May be assigned to any particular route within the school district and perform said duties at the discretion of the board and its authorized agents and may likewise be transferred from one assignment to another.
  14. Ensure students are released at designated stops only.
  15. Must comply with DOT and FMVSS standards.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Twelve months related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to cooperate in a team effort with other employees. Ability to use proper paraverbals.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to twenty five (25) pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined by current contract.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support personnel and monitored as necessary.
