Summary of Position:
The City of Doraville Bus Driver performs semi-skilled work in the operation of a bus shuttle for the Summer Camp in a safe and efficient manner.
Pay Rate: $25.00 hourly
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of a specific statement from the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Operates a summer camp bus as directed; picks up and drops off passengers; and complies with safety rules for passengers and with applicable policies, rules, and motor vehicle regulations.
- Follows CDL trip requirements; performs trip inspections before, during, and at end of shift; and logs information.
- Drives vehicles for various programs and trips; coordinates pick-ups.
- Provides satisfactory service to passengers and promotes positive passenger relations to passengers including those requiring special needs.
- Safely picks up and discharges passengers; and accurately counts passengers; assists staff and patrons with packages with getting on/off bus; and operates wheelchair lift and passenger restraint devices for passengers with disabilities as needed.
- Follows safety rules as passengers board and exit buses or cross streets; complies with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
- Adheres to designated route(s) and schedule(s).
- Reads maps, appropriately uses Global Positioning System (GPS), and follows written and verbal geographic directions.
- Ensures vehicle safety by conducting thorough inspections; checks the condition of a vehicle’s tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
- Reports any bus malfunctions.
- Prepares and submits reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, as requested; maintains an accurate accounting of program participants on field trips.
- Submits daily reports; post-accident, and incident reporting forms; and records and reports mechanical problems.
- Cleans the inside of the bus; removes trash from vehicle; and fuels the vehicle daily or as needed; cleans exterior of bus weekly or as needed.
- May be required to clean up contaminated areas, objects, and/or clothing as situations necessitate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Requires a High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires a valid State of Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL) State of Georgia commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B with passenger endorsement at time of hire.
- Holds and maintains a good driving record.
- First Aid, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications preferred.
- Must pass background check, pre-employment physical exam/drug test; and random testing.
- Works varied schedules based on needs of the department. Must be able to work Friday’s.
- Good knowledge of English and other languages common in Doraville (Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean) preferred.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed mostly in bus setting. The noise level in the work environment is frequently quiet to moderate, but may be loud in the field during special events.
- Ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Ability to communicate orally and to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, explosives, water hazards, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.

Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of traffic laws and related transportation regulations.
- Knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
- Knowledge of recreation programs.
- Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Skill in operating a shuttle bus, mobile radio, and recreation equipment.
- Skill in employing first aid, CPR, and AED.
- Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, members, participants, and the general public.
- Ability to read maps, GPS, and/or follow directions.
- Ability to respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies including responding to individuals in crisis.
- Ability to assist individuals in/out of vehicles, including those in wheelchairs that might require lifting.
- Ability to maintain composure and be sensitive to senior needs.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
