Experienced Bus Drivers will receive $22.50/hour and a $1800 signing bonus; $600 on 1st work day; $600 on end of 45 day probation; $600 after 6 months
New Bus Drivers will receive $19.50/hour during the 45 day proationary period then $22.50/hour and a $1200 signing bonus; $400 when licensed to drive; $400 end of 45 day probation; $400 after 6 months. After po

Summary:
Provide safe, orderly and efficient student transportation services over specified routes according to time schedule. Complies with traffic regulations. Enjoys working with children of all ages and disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Drives a school bus safely and professionally.
  2. Performs and documents properly completed daily pre-trip inspections and reports.
  3. Complies with all traffic ordinances.
  4. Complies with discipline policies set forth in the School Code of Conduct for Transportation.
  5. Participates in on-site or off-site training.
  6. Shows proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus.
  7. Regularly communicates in a professional manner with parents, students, staff, and the community.
  8. Report inappropriate student behavior to building principal or designee using a designated form.
  9. Follows all federal, state, and district rules, policies, and procedures.
  10. Follows all assigned schedules and routes unless written permission is given by supervisor.
  11. Perform daily bus cleaning and fueling duties.
  12. Certify MDOT physical and driver's license with the State of Michigan (non-excepted interstate) on a regular basis
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Supervises students while transporting them including while they get on and off the bus. Provide direction to the bus aide, if applicable.
    Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Education and/or Experience
    High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    Must have a valid Michigan driver's license, a positive driving record, and be able to obtain, within 60 days, a Commercial Driver's License with a P (passenger) and an S (school bus) endorsement. Must have a positive driving record and able to pass physical including drug test. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test. Must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified. Must be approved through the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
    Language Skills
    Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Uses respectful language at all times.
    Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, students, and parents. Ability to manage students' behavior during transport. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program. Must be able to evacuate students off a bus swiftly and safely. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools and is continuously driving on the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. Must meet agility requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100° and below 32° and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where the employee would have to raise their voice to be heard.
