Summary:
The Transportation Bus Attendant is responsible for assisting the bus operator, by attending to the physical needs of the special education children on the bus, especially while the bus is in operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Rides assigned route on a daily bus and special bus trips.
  • Attends to the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the special education students of the bus.
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of special education students.
  • Provides information to bus operators pertaining to problems related to the special education students.
  • Responds positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding in interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures, backgrounds, physical and mental challenges.
  • Accurately compiles data, analyzes and summarizes information and provides reports to the Bus Driver and Special Education Transportation Supervisor.

Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.
Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience with children, especially special education children in organized activities is required.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or high school equivalent. Completed two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education (48 college credit hours with required courses); or received an Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher learning; or a minimum score of 450 on the ETS Parapro Exam. Valid CPR certification is preferred. A valid first aid course must be completed during the first six (6) months of employment.
