Role Statement for Building Inspector Supervisor:

The principal function of this role is to manage, direct, and support the inspection staff. The Building Inspector will serve as the escalation support for projects that need additional knowledge and care. This role will organize daily work schedules for personnel and ensure that the inspection workload is distributed amongst the team for efficiency. They will perform commercial and/or residential building and safety inspections for all new and existing properties to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and City codes and regulations.

ROLE SUCCESS PROFILE

Key Job Accountabilities:
• Manage, schedule, and maintain requests for personal leave to ensure full coverage for inspection services.
• Organize daily inspection workload, assign, and prioritize as needed to complete all assigned inspections.
• Develops, analyzes, and defends program documentation, project reports, and legal positions associated with the codes, policies, and ordinances.
• First point of contact for issues and/or complaints that arise from citizens or members of the construction industry.
• Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
• The first point of contact for staff personnel issues, referring all such situations to the Building Official in a timely manner.
• Make sure all incoming inspection requests are scheduled and completed.
• Coordinate final inspection staff with other departments to achieve project completion status.
• Coordinates with the inspection staff for code interpretations and makes suggestions to the Building Official based on findings.
• Keeps the inspection staff, Building Officials, and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems.
• Make suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing problems and daily work.
• Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions, and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
• Other projects, tasks, and duties as assigned.

Education, Experience Level, and Certification Requirements:
• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
• ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification.
• ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification.
• One other inspection or plan review certification, not limited to ICC acknowledgment.
• 6 years of experience as a Building Inspector II or any combination of experience which provides the equivalent scope.

• Must be able to operate under standard office practices and procedures, including the operation of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions (more detailed essential physical job functions available upon request):
• The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment and in the field on various terrains and construction sites.
