PURPOSE OF ANNOUNCEMENT:
To recruit qualified candidates to fill 1 Building Custodian vacancy for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Bureau of Real Estate Management, Property Management Division. Duties include performing extensive custodial duties including scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing floors; shampooing, repairing and maintenance of carpets; maintenance work involving fire boilers and heating systems; plumbing of flushes and sinks; installing shelving and grounds work including sweeping and shoveling.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

  • Vacuums and shampoos carpet and upholstery using vacuum and shampoo equipment in order to maintain appearance and prolong life of materials.
  • Transports shampoo, custodial equipment and supplies to all buildings using State-owned large box truck.
  • Performs extensive custodial duties including cleaning spills of blood and bodily fluids in compliance with OSHA standards/ Bags and disposes of contaminated waste materials in order to prevent the spread of disease.
  • Replaces burned out light bulbs and assists in making simple repairs to buildings and equipment in order to maintain facility.
    ordering and maintaining adequate inventory supplies.
  • Grounds work including sweeping, washing, and removing snow from walkways
  • Scrubs, strips, waxes, and refinishes all types of floors.
  • Moves and assembles furniture
  • Maintenance work involving heating systems and plumbing involving sinks, flushes and drains.


KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of custodial duties.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and regulations related to carpet cleaning.
  • Knowledge of MSDS regulations.
  • Knowledge of shampoo equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of chemical usage and safe handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of carpet spot removal techniques.
  • Knowledge of carpet materials, textures and construction.
  • Knowledge of appropriate carpet cleaning methods.
  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain written records.
  • Ability to evaluate carpet and upholstery cleaning needs.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work safely as a member of a work team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience and training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance and repair.
Preference will be giving to candidates with Custodial and housekeeping experience.
