Job description

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Regularly reviews the energy efficiency and optimization of building HVAC/Controls systems through the campus BAS using trending and other software tools.  Regularly conducts on-going continuous commissioning of building systems including the CUP and all campus chiller plants, HW system, and AHU equipment.  Monitors and corrects HVAC equipment scheduling and temperature set-points using BAS and field audits.  
  • Conducts field audits and energy data analysis to identify energy-saving opportunities with respect to mechanical systems/HVAC/controls systems. Manages the implementation of HVAC/Controls Projects.
  • Provides HVAC/mechanical/controls input and reviews comments projects during planning, design, and construction phases.  Challenges/questions design assumptions, energy modeling inputs/outputs, system designs, equipment selections, HVAC control sequences, etc.  Provides constructability and submittal review comments.  Regularly conducts field inspections during construction, reporting variances and/or issues to necessary stakeholders.
  • Participates in retuning/retrocommissioning and continuous commissioning of existing buildings for proper HVAC/controls and lighting operation and energy efficient performance. Participates with in house commissioning team efforts working with Commissioning Manager, HVAC, Building Maintenance and 3rd party. Participates in the commissioning of new buildings and major renovations ensuring completion of Cx documents, reports, etc with respect to HVAC and metering.
  • Assists in the implementation of optimal HVAC setpoints and scheduling including holiday, weekend, night set backs. Assists in the management of all electric, steam, chilled water, natural gas, and water metering systems and integrates such into the BAS; initiates correction of malfunctioning meters and oversees the installation of new meters.
  • Advances the campus's Green Energy initiatives. 

Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten years of industry experience in HVAC systems with Building Automation Systems

Preferred  

  • Experience using Automated Logic in a high-level role is required in a higher education setting. 
  • Microsoft Office with Excel experience for data collection and data analysis a must. 
  • Advanced knowledge in Automatic Logic and diagnostics/troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE and HVAC standards and their application to buildings and building systems. 
  • Advanced knowledge of building mechanical systems with special emphasis on HVAC and controls, including in-depth knowledge of Building Automation Systems and integration experience with 3rd party equipment/systems. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to interface with TU campus personnel, facilities project managers and maintenance/field personnel.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics, drawings, specifications, and construction documents; to use Building Automation System software; to assess HVAC equipment, to diagnose building system problems; to prepare reports reflecting analytic and diagnostic work; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Knowledge and ability to interpret specifications to establish and update university design and construction specifications. Ability to promote and participate in education and training opportunities that improve performance of self and others in Facilities Management.  

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
