Habitat’s Build Department directly improves the living conditions of low-income families by creating safe, healthy, affordable dwellings through the construction of new multi- and single-unit new housing, whole house rehab projects, and owner-occupied home repair work.

Position Objective

Reporting to the Build Operations and Compliance Manager, the Warehouse and Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing the physical assets used by the Build team to perform home construction and repair work. Responsibilities include warehouse organization, tool upkeep, vehicle maintenance, vendor coordination, and supply purchasing. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized self-starter with hands-on experience in residential construction, materials purchasing, inventory and warehouse management.

Key Responsibility Area: PURCHASING, INVENTORY and ORGANIZATION OF MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

  • Harness bulk pricing to maintain a stock of commonly used construction materials and PPE for use on construction and repair projects

  • Coordinate with Project Managers to organize and store project-specific materials and equipment such as cabinets, windows, and appliances in preparation for use on job sites by construction teams; facilitate the return of unused items as needed

  • Coordinate with Build Administrator as needed for financial documentation and tracking of project-specific materials

  • Implement an inventory system to manage and track materials, equipment and vehicles housed in HFHP facilities

  • Regularly research and coordinate centralized donation opportunities for use in construction, rehabilitation, and repair projects

  • Be present onsite to receive deliveries of Build materials, equipment, and supplies

Key Responsibility Area: WAREHOUSE and STORAGE FACILITIES

  • Maintain warehouse storage and workspaces, creating an environment that is organized, safe, and efficient to use

  • Perform ongoing inventory and maintenance of tools and equipment with regular disposal, sale, or donation of items no longer in use

  • Manage building and lot maintenance tasks including coordination of work from subcontractors and vendors, such as snow removal services, waste management, routine roof maintenance, etc.

  • Coordinate regular Build vehicle service and maintenance work as well as annual inspections and registrations

  • Coordinate volunteers to assist with warehouse maintenance tasks and projects

  • Coordinate with Build team members to purchase tools, equipment, and vehicles

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience working in relevant work settings such as residential construction, materials purchasing, inventory and warehouse management, with demonstrated experience in purchasing management or procurement

  • Proficiency with operation and maintenance of power tools, hand tools, equipment, and vehicles; forklift operation a plus

  • Experience in basic Microsoft Office Suite, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams

  • Ability to work independently on self-directed tasks and complex projects, including the ability to create and maintain basic budgets and schedules

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills; professional attitude and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with unskilled volunteers and in diverse populations

  • Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record

  • Possess or would be willing to gain necessary certifications in safety/First Aid, OSHA 30 and EPA RRP certification
