Job description

SUMMARY
Works closely with the BSA Supervisor to ensure that Sunwest Bank (“Bank”) is compliant with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) laws and regulations; the regulatory agencies’ requirements and expectations; and the Bank’s BSA/OFAC Policy. The BSA Analyst I is responsible for conducting day-to-day monitoring, reporting, and assisting with other control processes pertaining to financial crimes risk management. The BSA Analyst I is actively engaged with other departments within the Bank to assist with BSA and OFAC requirements and ensure that their processes cover necessary BSA/OFAC elements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Completing system-generated BSA and OFAC alerts.
  • Assists with the ongoing enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews of the Bank’s high-risk customers.
  • Reviewing and submitting applicable Currency Transaction Reports (CTR).
  • Assists in reviewing investigations and Suspicious Activity Reports (SAR).
  • Ensures compliance with Customer Identification Program (CIP) requirements and the Bank’s policy for customer due diligence and EDD.
  • Reviews sanctions and negative news results and ensures proper dispositioning is performed.
  • Promotes quality and attention to detail.
  • Ensures processes are consistent with BSA and OFAC laws and regulations.
  • Actively engaged in promoting a strong compliance culture.
  • Proactively participates and suggests enhancement opportunities.
  • Promotes collaboration and proactively assists other members within the BSA Department and the Bank.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory changes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Works closely with the BSA Supervisor or BSA Officer to update the Bank’s BSA and OFAC training programs, policies, procedures, and risk assessments as necessary and appropriate.
  • Serves as a point of contact for all BSA/OFAC-related matters, including negative news, potential matches on sanctions screening, and unusual behavior raised by frontline staff.
  • Escalate all matters mentioned above to the BSA Supervisor or BSA Officer if the items cannot be resolved.
  • Attends training and maintains a basic knowledge of procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations governing financial institutions, as they apply to the position and job responsibilities, with an emphasis on BSA, OFAC, Regulatory Compliance, Information Security, and overall compliance and risk management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or two years of related banking experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred bank operational experience of no less than two years, with exposure to branch and back office operations, as well as compliance functions.
  • Preferred BSA/OFAC compliance-specific experience of no less than two years, with exposure to transactional analysis as well as general program and reporting requiremen
  • Preferred certifications in BSA and/or OFAC.
  • Strong professional skills with an emphasis on detail, planning, and organization. General knowledge of overall bank products and services, particularly those offered in a commercial banking environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple activities to completion within strictly regulated deadlines.
