WVIA is the PBS and NPR affiliate serving over 22 counties in northeastern and central Pennsylvania. WVIA television channels include WVIA TV, WVIA PBS Kids 24/7, and WVIA Create. WVIA’s radio channels include WVIA Radio, WVIA HD2 and the Chiaroscuro Channel. WVIA’s programs can also be found streaming live and on-demand on wvia.org and the WVIA app. We are located in Pittston, PA, just minutes from Interstate 81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
We are seeking a skilled Broadcast Technician in our Pittston, PA headquarters to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for setting up and maintaining our electronic equipment for our TV and radio programs, as well as ensuring that all building operations are running smoothly.
This is a multi-faceted role that involves working and collaborating with all internal departments. The main duties of the role are:
- Perform regular maintenance on WVIA TV and radio equipment including transmitters, cameras, microphones, and signal processing equipment
- Diagnose and repair different types of technical issues promptly to minimize downtime
- Monitor and control broadcasting equipment during live broadcasts
- Ensure the quality and integrity of transmitted signals
- Provide technical support to all departments when needed
- Provide building maintenance to WVIA headquarters and studios and all other owned transmitter sites
- Handle general repairs in the building and follow through on maintenance requests in building as they arise
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A High School Diploma (Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcasting, or a related field preferred)
- 3-5 years of proven experience in electronics or broadcast engineering required
- Must have working knowledge of analog and digital studio equipment
- Must have a valid driver’s license

- Familiarity with FCC regulations and standards
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, live broadcasting environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of video and audio editing software
- Experience with automation systems
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt role (40 hours/week, M-F) position with a competitive hourly salary. Working Conditions:
- Physical demands: standing, sitting, climbing ladders, occasional lifting of heavy equipment of more than 50 lbs
- Occasional travel is required to work at transmitter and translator sites and other WVIA studio locations.
- Weather conditions are sometimes considered treacherous and extreme temperatures may apply.
- Work environment can include occasional exposure to Radio Frequency and Electromagnetic signals, High voltage applications, noise, and chemicals used in electronic repairs.
- Must be able to use fingers and hands for typing.
- Must be able to regularly talk and hear.
