Job description

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated building maintenance services company, is seeking a Bridge Operator to work the 2pm-10pm shift in the Newport News, VA area. The Bridge Operator is responsible for and operates one or more drawbridges; does other related duties. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities

  • Typical tasks carried out by Bridge Operators include controlling road traffic warning signals, raising, and lowering bridges to allow waterway passage, and communicating with ship traffic. In order to operate the machinery and coordinate safe passage, a Bridge Operator must also maintain and inspect the equipment to ensure it's in safe, working condition. If an accident occurs, the Bridge Operator will be expected to prepare a report.
  • A Bridge Operator position usually only requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Receives on-the-job training in the operation of power-driven drawbridges.
  • Become familiar with Coast Guard regulations and DOTD policies on bridge operations.
  • Conducts visual inspection of the bridge to ensure safe operation.
  • Prepares bridge logs, documenting bridge openings and closings in response to marine vessel signals.
  • Uses the marine radio to communicate with vessel pilots.
  • Reports mechanical or electrical problems to bridge lead worker or other appropriate personnel so that corrective action can be taken.
  • Assists in the collection of information to report marine and vehicular collisions and damages.
  • Perform daily janitorial duties (sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning windows, etc.)
May be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth above to address business needs and change business practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, computer training with Microsoft office background
Licenses, Certifications, Requirements
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • The successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is a requirement for this job.
Working Conditions
  • Requires light physical work; light lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 25 pounds. Prolonged sitting.
  • Required to work nights and holidays when needed.
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour
Shift : 2pm-10pm
