Breeder Flock Supervisor- Production
Primary Function:
*Supervises and assists contract hatching egg producers in the production of hatching eggs according to Sanderson Farms' program.
*Performs other flock related duties such as weighing, vaccinating and medicating, drawing blood, ordering feed, litter, spraying and wash downs and coordinating the placement of pullets on hen farms and the catching of spent flocks.
*Stays current on breeder flock management and hatching egg production technology.
Major Responsibilities:
*Makes routine inspections of contract hen houses, checking on the health of hens, proper care by the producer, proper operation of houses and equipment, conditions in egg and cooler rooms, amount of feed on farm, egg grading procedures, condition of disposal facilities and other items prescribed for the proper operation of hen farm.
*Makes recommendations and suggestions to grower about farm or flock condition.
*Records and reviews egg production and flock mortality.
*Orders feed for flock as necessary.
*Sample weighs birds on farms to determine the physical and sexual development the flock.
*Maintains a disease bio-security program on all farms.
*Supervises the preparation of farms for receiving mature pullets, including proper clean out necessary repairs, ordering litter and wash and spray service.
*Escorts catchers and live haul trucks to farms where flocks are sold.
*Assists Pullet Supervisor in placing mature pullets on hen farms.
*Vaccinates and medicates flocks as prescribed.
*Takes monthly inventory of birds on farms.
*Attends workshops and seminars relating to breeder flock management and hatching egg production.
*Supervises construction of new and repair of old hen farm facilities.
*Makes records of and reports as required of medications used, weights, inventories, farm conditions, egg production and other items relating to hen farms or flocks.
*Sends or takes diseased birds and feed samples to diagnostic labs as necessary.
*Draws blood samples and sends or takes to lab as necessary.
*Maintains company animal welfare program as it pertains to breeders.
*Performs other duties as required.
Key Working Relationships:
*Reports to and consults with Breeder-Hatchery Manager about conditions of flocks, problems and solutions, schedules and other hen or hatching egg activities.
*Coordinates transferring into hen farms mature pullets with Pullet Service Supervisors.
*Reports to Accounting Department such items as inventories, weights of hens, eggs produced, medicines and vaccines used, vehicle mileage and contractual changes.
*Orders litter, spray and wash downs as needed.
*Places hen feed orders with feed dispatcher.
*Coordinates blood drawing and tissue sampling with Corporate Veterinarian.
*Interacts with Hatchery personnel on such items as farm needs for racks, egg cases and flats and problems the Hatchery might have with farms such as road problems and quality of eggs.
*Maintains close contact with contractors and equipment vendors in an effort to minimize cost on farms.
*Assists Broiler Service Supervisors in solving broiler chick problems that relate to a specific hen flock.
*Maintains contact with breeder hen representatives, veterinarians, outside labs, poultry associations, State Vet School and other external agencies that have an interest in or can assist in producing hatching eggs.
*Identifies with the values, philosophy and mission of Sanderson Farms, Inc.
*Ability to communicate with and relate to contract producers effectively so as to win confidence and support for instructions given.
*Ability to work with co-workers and others with a wide variety of personalities and varying educational levels.
Position Requirements:
Academic: Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Science, Business, or Related area, or equivalent experience.
Experience: One year agricultural experience preferred.
Physical: Able to work in various temperatures. Able to work in wet and humid environment. Able to bend, stoop, reach, grasp, twist and kneel. Able to lift 40lbs or more, utilizing proper lifting techniques. Able to work in noisy and dusty environments. Able to stand for long periods of time.
Tolerate exposure to chemicals within OSHA limits. Able to wear all required PPE. Able to meet the criteria of the DOT Motor Vehicle Records
