POSITION SUMMARY
The School District of Clayton is seeking a Brass Specialist / Band Director for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful candidate will instruct pupils (6-8 and 9-12) to provide all students with the musical opportunities and experiences necessary to become consumers, creators, and/or performers of music.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in program scheduling, including but not limited to, ensemble rehearsals and performances and non-school performance opportunities (i.e. State Honors Ensembles, festivals, community events, etc.).
  • Represents the District Band program locally, throughout the state and nationally.
  • Establishes course goals, prepares and implements lesson plans, and articulates curriculum at specific developmental level including students with disabilities.
  • Sets up and organizes classroom (studio), selecting instructional books, musical materials and instruments, and accompanies students on field trips to recitals, music halls, and performances.
  • Maintains Brass Instruments and supplies - can fix small issues, keep track of supplies necessary for playing.
  • Demonstrates a variety of musical techniques using a variety of methods and procedures to pupils at varying levels of development and various skill levels.
  • Maintains order in the classroom, and, in conjunction with administrative staff; administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
  • Observes and evaluates pupils' work to determine progress, make suggestions for improvement that supports individual growth, and confers with student, parent, and counselor to resolve student problems.
  • Assists in planning, supervision, and coordination of student performances and concerts, collaborating with other members of the music staff on District performances.
  • Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and as-needed basis.
  • Consults with other professionals where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities, drug or alcohol abuse, or problems of social adjustment. Coordinates with parents concerning any specialized intervention that appears warranted. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
  • Assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the school to include necessary non-instructional assignments and student management throughout the entire building.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by superiors such as, sponsoring a student organization or activity.

Tentative Timeline
  • January 2024: Interviews
  • February 2024: Board Approval

Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Major or Minor in content area preferred. Master's Degree preferred.
Certification: Missouri teacher certification, with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
Experience: Requires a minimum of practice teaching experience. Must have demonstrated expertise in the area of musical concentration.

Work Calendar: 192 day calendar
