Assistant Band Director (Grades 6-12)

The Nixa School District is seeking a professional educator for the position of Assistant Band Director. Primary duties include working with the other band instructors in a district approach to the band program, preparing students for a high level of achievement both individually and as an ensemble as evaluated by the established curriculum. 
Specific High School responsibilities include team instructing the High School marching band, concert bands, and lead teaching for jazz band.  Specific Jr High responsibilities include team instructing the 8th grade band and lead teaching 7th grade brass classes, as well as coordinating Jr High level administrative tasks and alignment.
The Nixa Band program serves approximately 750 students grades 6-12 and is staffed by 5 full time teachers and 2 part time instructors. Sixth grade classes are offered in 3 different intermediate buildings and structured by like instrument. Grades 7-8 are held in a single building, with two seventh grade brass classes organized by high brass and low brass. The 8th grade band is combined but is balanced between a focus on large ensemble learning as well as often split into woodwinds, brass and percussion. The high school band is comprised of a 240 member marching band that is active in local competitions as well as the Bands of America circuit, participating in Regionals, Super Regionals and Grand Nationals. 2nd semester the band divides into 3 separate concert ensembles. Jazz band is a yearlong class. Students participate in district band and solo/ensemble festivals. The band rehearses and performs in top level facilities. Missouri teaching certification in Instrumental Music grades 6-12 is required. A focus as a brass specialist is highly preferred. Experience in the approach of team teaching and team program management is essential.  An interest in team leadership and upward mobility is preferred.  A desire to work with all grade levels both in the classroom and in an extra curricular setting is a must. Applicants should be highly organized and communicate effectively with team, students, teachers, parents and administration. Willingness to collaborate with peers. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education.
