Job Summary:
At the direction of a radiologist or other physician, performs DXA imaging in the Nuclear Medicine/ PET Department. Reviews/approves images and related information for quality accuracy and completeness, and forwards to PACS for archive. Responsible for overseeing the Bone Density area which includes implementing changes to protocols per radiologist, coordinating service and preventative maintenance on imaging device , maintaining the QA and QC manuals and performing the QC/QA on a regular basis, teaching bone densitometry class to the Nuclear Medicine/PET Technologist Interns (optional), scheduling medical students and residents to shadow in the DXA area and work with research coordinators for scheduling subjects and documenting data per research study. Supports customer service and other quality initiatives as defined by hospital and department policy. Provides positive and effective interaction and communication with patients, visitors, medical and hospital staff. Adheres to hospital customer service standards and supports the hospital's organizational excellence initiative. Directly responsible for any accreditations in Bone Densitometry. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of two years of documented progressive responsibility in a position beyond entry level with additional certification from The International Society For Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) or The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Bone Densitometry (ARRT) is required.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Post high school completion of an ARRT accredited Radiologic Technology program or from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology Program is required.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
One of the following 3 certifications is required within 6 months of employment:
- ARRT - Bone Densitometry Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- CBDT - Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist from The International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD)
- CDT Certified Densitometry Technologist from The International Society For Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
