Job Summary
The Boiler Operator is under limited supervision and using considerable latitude for independent judgement. The Boiler Operator will demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of operations and maintenance to the plant to maintain, operate and monitor all plant generating equipment/systems. This includes responding to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and execute plant shutdown and startup procedures as required. This position assures the plant meets its generating requirements while operating and maintaining it in a safe and efficient manner. Additional areas of knowledge and/or expertise include an aptitude in instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all plant systems, operating and emergency response procedures. Be able to execute procedures and equipment when necessary and access the appropriate plant manuals.
- Investigate and clear all alarms by taking appropriate actions.
- Perform plant startup and shutdown as necessary in accordance with proper procedures.
- Update, maintain and review plant logs and records continuously, precisely and accurately.
- Report anomalies and plant status to management.
- Make adjustment and corrections as necessary.
- Test and treat water as per written procedures.
- Assist in training and development of new operators.
- Complete company training. Maintain plant in a neat and orderly manner.
- Operate plant safely.
- Ensure proper LOTO procedures are followed.
- Support maintenance and operations activities.
- Complete rounds and fill out log sheets. Report anomalies to management.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five years of experience in maintenance and operations of stationary equipment
- Valid Driver’s License
- TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT’s terminal locations.
- New Jersey Blue Seal Stationary License (or higher)
Skills and Abilities
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language .
- Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
- Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.
- Ability to work in a complex, high pressure, production-oriented environment.
- Ability to interface with plant staff and outside contractors.
- Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
- Be familiar with computer monitored operations.
- Be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Hours of Work
- Typical hours of operation: DuPont 12-hour rotating shift
- This position requires overtime and weekend work as job duties demand.

- This would require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.
- Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.
- Ability to wear and use a respirator.
