Boiler Operator

Description of Work

This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which is a Medium/Minimum male prison facility housing 1042 inmates.
This position will be responsible for the operation of steam boilers for heating purposes.
Position serves as shift Boiler Operators in steam plants that vary in size and complexity.
Duties include starting and shutting down boilers, monitoring various operational readings and making necessary adjustments to maintain optional efficiency, performing
water tests and adding chemicals to water as necessary, performing routine boiler maintenance and assisting in more complex maintenance jobs. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Steam Plant Supervisor in a smaller plant and under the supervision of a Boiler Shift Supervisor in a larger plant.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

One year of progressive experience in the performance of tasks associated with mechanical maintenance or boiler operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
